Russell Hobbs Kettle:
PROS:
– Body of kettle looks really cool (but does get hot, although I specifically wanted a metal kettle so I guess not surprising!)
– Pours nicely
– Internal cup indicators – didn’t think I would use these but I love them
– Not too noisy
– Reasonably fast boil
– Lid pops up quickly and fully with one push of button
– Lights around base when operating – very space-age. Gimmicky but I like them
CONS:
– silver parts (base, handle) are cheap and plasticky. Not sure how they will age
– Takes ages to automatically switch off when boiling. Steam everywhere and kettle jiggles around madly on base.
– Quickly get fingerprints on silver areas. It’s easy to clean and, as it’s new, I keep wiping it but, in the future …
– Difficult to see water level indicator. Partly obscured by handle plus the light has to be JUST right to actually see the water level through the dark coloured plastic

Lovely shape and design
Efficient operation

I was really amazed with the quality of this kettle and it looks so stylish. The stand even lights up when it’s switched on. It also boils quickly but quietly with an easy to use “flip open” lid.

I looked long and hard before I bought this one as I did not want a kettle that would result in water that tasted like plastic. This kettle is attractive and pours well. I drink a lot of hot water each day and I can honestly say that the taste of the boiled water is pure. There are plastic indicators inside to show the level of one cup etc. I have not had to remove these. It boils quickly enough for me as I fill it with water for one or two cups only. I live alone and have plenty of silence in my home so the noise of the kettle does not disturb me in the slightest. (That doesn’t mean it is noisy, I hastily point out.) I like everything about this kettle – its appearance and its performance and thoroughly recommend it.
Don’t make my mistake and order the product with delivery to Australia. I didn’t think of it at the time but has a UK power plug so can’t be used in Australia. –
Don’t make my mistake and get delivery to Australia. I didn’t think of it when ordering but comes with a UK power plug so it’s useless in Australia.

This small appliance came in a HUGE box. They’d clearly run out of appropriate boxes, or someone was having a laugh.
Anyway, now that my recycling situation is diabolical until Thursday, I shall let you know what I think of this yuppie’s kettle with geometric patterns on its (rather surprisingly) only single skin wall. Watch out for that with young or elderly as it’ll get as hot as the water. Which boils rapidly without much fuss.
The base is a 360 contact with a nice light all around it. The overall quality of the kettle is good and it looks attractive on my dark granite tops.
My two complaints are that the spout is small and it takes ages to pour a full mug’s worth of water on my tea bag. If you get impatient and tip it just a little too far the bloody lid leaks. Which, it should not.
The lid itself is spring loaded. If you have just poured boiling water out and need to refill, take care not to let it splash your arm with almost boiling water. Like (what) I did. Mug!

This kettle arrived in a ripped box with the kettle falling out of the bottom of the box the chrome bits are only plastic nice to look at but quality is awful i returned it and had to pay for the return for something that looked as if it had been opened previously before i received it

This kettle looks beautiful but only thing wrong is the level indicator is very hard to see how much water is in it. It maybe need a coloured needle indicator to see it more clearly. But otherwise a really lovely kettle which Boils very quickly and pours very well. Very Happy with it.

Very pleased with this kettle. Sleek and elegant, does exactly what it should.
I wanted to respond to a review which suggested it was dangerous because the outside gets hot when boiled – it’s a metal container for boiling water – I’d be more concerned if it didn’t get hot! The handle stays cold and is easy to hold at any angle; it’s the best pouring kettle I’ve ever had.
Another review said water pours from the lid when pouring – it does, but only if tipped right up to pour into a pan, for example. It’s not really a problem because the water just joins the flow from the spout; it doesn’t splash or splutter.
I removed the red plastic cup measuring thing from inside, as other reviews suggested it affected the taste of the water, and I specifically wanted a metal, not plastic, kettle. The little window with measuring lines on is plastic, and quite sufficient to see how much water is inside. I don’t know why they need to duplicate it with more plastic.
One review I read mentioned it was slightly wobbly on its base – I also thought so when I first sat it on the worktop. However, once there’s water in it (any amount), it’s completely solid.
It’s also quiet, with the noise level being consistent throughout the boil. It doesn’t seem to get any louder as it approaches boiling as some kettles do.
Overall, great kettle, would recommend!
