Toast is more difficult to make than you may think. An Oven Grill is commonly used doing one side at a time and moving and rotating each side to ensure even cooking. This is because the moisture content in a slice of bread varies. If you walk away for 2 minutes, you’ll get uneven and/or burnt bread.
Okay now to the review of the Breville Edge: I was about to purchase on Amazon, a £215.00 Toaster Brand, that promised great toast, but believe me ALL Toaster have the same issue, more or less, uneven cooking due to bread moisture content, and of course ‘Electrical Element’ size i.e. bread slice being bigger than element coverage.
I decided to try the Breville FIRST before parting with £215.00 (the Breville is on ‘Amazon Special’ right now). It boasts that it “cooks the bread to the very edge”, but a caveat is advised on this. Yes, it certainly can cook the bread slice evenly, BUT I found you need to place each bread slice horizontally AND check the cooking progress with the “Lift & Look” lever, to check BOTH sides of the bread slice. The ‘crust’ will always be dryer, (moisture again) and will start to go brown FIRST. You will then need to remove the bread slice and place it Vertically to finish the cooking. If you think you can just set the browning control and walk away while you make the tea, you’re asking for trouble. I’m afraid to tell you that most automatic toasters will disappoint you, sooner or later.
I recommend the Breville Edge. It does what it says: “cooks to the edge of bread” and takes various bread slice sizes, too. But I’m sorry. You have to keep your eye on the cooking AND move the bread from horizontal to vertical to ensure perfect results. You can even flip each slice if one side is cooking a tad faster than the other. On balance, it is much easier than a grill but requires just a little bit of thought during use for perfect results!

I returned the unit for a refund due to it being delivered with a foreign electrical plug attached. I’m not a qualified electrician and shouldn’t have to change an items power plug

I was looking forward to using this toaster, as the extra long slots would mean larger slices of bread would fit in it completely, without sticking out of the top. It felt well made and looked good on the kitchen counter. Unfortunately, I had a similar experience to other reviewers, where the toasting was very inconsistent. The bread was often toasted on the side facing the middle of the toaster and completely soft and untoasted on the other. The consistency across the bread was also quite poor. These are pretty fundamental issues for a toaster!
Pros:
– the lift and look feature was very good, meaning you could check the bread during the cycle without having to cancel it.
– it looked very stylish on the kitchen counter.
– the buttons on the side were elegant and nice to use.
– because it’s only got two slots, it could be used for much longer pieces of bread, which is a real bonus.
Cons:
– only toasted one side of the bread, which is a pretty major shortfall for a toaster.
– the cable was a bit short.
– the middle of the slots seemed to be hotter than the rest, so the toasting could be quite uneven.

Bought this kettle as a replacement for the Breville Edge Still Hot kettle which was faulty. This low steam kettle is very good & worth that little bit extra cost. It is definitely low steam but boils quickly and is very quiet. Very pleased with this product.

Works well even on Warburtons sliced loaf.
Eliminate the need to turn your bread.

Very good product i like the red and blue warning lights .. my only concern is that water is trapped under the cap cover if you weigh water for special coffee preparation bare in mind you might shave couple of grams of your boiled water

Large loaf slices don’t fit well into many toasters so wanted 2 slice slots to fit 1 slice of bread from a typical supermarket loaf. This is slightly smaller than the 4 slice/2 slot toaster its replacing, but still just about OK for standard slices.
After just a couple of uses it seems fine but not amazing. The heating element doesn’t look very even when it starts heating. But does seem to toast evenly so far.
The build quality isn’t great, it feels flimsy and I’d expect better at this price point – even at the reduced price. If I’d seen it in a store I’d probably have opted to pay more for something that felt better made.
Early days so need to see how well it does and how well it lasts

Returned an el cheapo toaster because of the smell & decided to go Breville, as very happy with the Breville Selecta kettle I recently purchased. What a difference a good toaster makes to breakfast enjoyment. Have gone gluten free since I last owned a toaster & thought the dry offerings my grill turned out was the norm for that type of bread. Revelation this morning. The toaster handles GF fruit bread so well & white GF turned out crispy on the outside & fluffy in the middle. Early days but if things continue in the same vein then am very happy with the purchase.

Makes good toast mostly. One side always seems to be browner than the other though.
