Let’s be real, a toaster is a toaster no matter what you get. But this one is a lovely design, unusual colour and suits my kitchen aesthetic beautifully. Got the matching kettle and my kitchen looks very sophisticated! Russell Hobbs are my go to for kitchen appliances as they always last.

    Russell Hobbs 2 Slice Toaster:

This toaster has a number of nice and helpful features that are new to me having used a very old toaster for years.
I especially like the lift feature that lets you look at the progress of the toasting to decide if you are happy with it.
That one suits me perfectly because I don’t really like the bread toasted for longer than a minute or so.

In my opinion the product looks feminine with its rose gold trim and a main case that looks like its is a pleated dress. This looks obvious to me but there doesn’t seem to be any suggestion of it in the listing so I guess they leave it up to interpretation. I like that the is a matching themed kettle to go with it if you were looking for a gift set for someone.

I think it looks nice overall and I didn’t experience any smells during the first use of my one.

This is an ok toaster. It does all the average stuff that toasters do = defrost, time dial, cancel, and raise. The outside walls are plastic, and certainly feel it. It does nothing spectacular….so why the £49.99 (as of 30.04.25) price tag? Honestly, no idea, other than the branding.

Well packaged and ready to use. Before we placed any bread into this unit we switched it on and let it run a couple of cycles. This was based on experience that when brand new they give off a bit of a burning odour as the metal coils get used for the first time. Once this was done we placed some bread into the unit and set to. All worked as expected. It did take us a couple of uses to get the timing set correctly for our choice of bread, but this is normal and a simple task.
The unit itself is very attractive, with a built in cord storage in the base to avoid having cable running around your worktop.
A quality product, as you would expect from this well know and reputable brand. Great product!

This toaster performs reasonably well. The looks let it down though. In the images it looks to be a creamy colour – the reality is a dull grey. The finish is matte – and this is something that is advertised on the box. It looks like a cheap silicone plastic cover. The metalic finish is gold – again, this jars with the grey and makes it look like it is trying to hard. There is a strong smell of plastic.

The toast appears to be even, but it’s not particularly quick. The lift is adequate and the slots wide enough to get a thick slice in or a bagel – the slots are not that long though so you’ll struggle with an oval loaf as it will be half toast!

I’m unsure why this is priced at £50. I suspect it will be a marmite product.

This is quite a nice toaster. It does everything as it should. It is quite compact in size so it will fit on smaller counters. It toasts well and is quite straightforward to clean. Given that the outside is plastic, it makes it quite easy to wipe clean. I’m. Very pleased with this toaster.

Russell Hobbs 2 Slice Toaster is an attractive design and one which would look good in almost any kitchen. However, looks can sometimes be deceiving. At the current selling price of £49.99, I would have expected better quality materials. The outer body of the toaster is all plastic and the whole thing feels lightweight and a little bit flimsy. During use, I noticed that it gives off rather a pungent smell of melting plastic but this will most likely fade after it’s been used a few more times. Thankfully it didn’t make my toast taste the same way.

I think where this product shines is with its ability to make good toast, on its first run yesterday, I popped two small slices of bread in the top, set the heat setting to position ‘3’ and waited. Barely 1 minute had passed before up popped two pieces of golden brown toast with an even browning on both sides, something my previous toaster could never get right. I even noticed that the inside of the toast was still soft and the bread hadn’t dried out in the process.

The inner workings of this toaster have the same cheap look as the exterior, unfortunately, but this is where it differs, it incorporates some useful features. For example, the extra wide slots allow you to toast larger food items, such as crumpets, bagels or muffins with ease. When you put your bread in and lower the lever, two metal side clamps gently embrace your bread ensuring it is held centrally in the toaster for that even browning. Also rather useful is the ‘lift and look feature’, allowing you to lift up the toast to check if it is done, prior to it popping up. The toaster also incorporates a frozen bread setting which I have yet to try. Additionally there is a ‘reheat’ and ‘cancel’ function on the temperature selector which is self explanatory and another useful addition.

The bottom pull-out crumb tray is a neat idea, though in reality, many of the crumbs remained in the toaster which then fell through the bottom when I lifted the toaster up. I think the secret to emptying it successfully is to tip the toaster from side to side prior to pulling out the crumb tray so as to ensure the crumbs fall into the tray first.

As per my opening comments, this toaster does look nice enough but I feel the price is a little too high, given its cheap and flimsy construction, I would have put it in the range of £30 – £35 at most.

    Price: £49.99

This is really just a standard toaster but at a premium price, maybe just because of its design. There is nothing wrong with it overall, the browning is good and the lift feature is helpful but it isn’t constructed from expensive materials and so the price point seems rather high to me.
