A M Mackender –
I previously owned a Mountfield Princess 42 which only lasted 2 years 8 months before the motor lost power and smoke started billowing from the mower accompanied by an acrid burning smell. I contacted Mountfield (Stiga Ltd) to complain as I would have expected a relatively expensive machine that has only been used a dozen or so times on a flat well kept 100m2 lawn should have lasted much longer than this. Initially I was told that because the 2 year warranty had expired they would not offer any refund. However after several more emails they eventually offered a 75% discount off a new mower but only from the Princess range if purchased directly from their website. I reluctantly agreed to this as it was cheaper than purchasing a new mower elsewhere, despite the fact that I really didn’t want to give this sub-standard company any more of my money. Unfortunately they no longer make the Princess 42 so I opted for the smaller Princess 38. It arrived today and appears to be identical except for one thing. The grass box has been replaced by a crappy, cheap and nasty bag which is tiny and an absolute nightmare to put together with no instructions. I just hope that this mower lasts longer than the previous one which while it worked, did cut the lawn well.
