I bought the “Mountfield SP41 Petrol Lawnmower, Self-Propelled” and I do recommended this lawnmower, there is 2 things I do not like though, first the cutter does not go as wide as the wheels, meaning when you cut an edge you cannot cut right to the edge or the wheel would go over the edge as shown in the video review, and secondly the wheels are very thin and hollow, fine for grass, but I store my lawnmower away from my lawn and I have to go over concrete, the wheels are like a small child’s car they sit in, but worse as they are hollow and only have an outer edge.
Other than these 2 peeves it cuts great, started first time, the design is all you need, there is no primer for the fuel like my last mower so we will see if this causes a problem down the road, the noise level is below average, it pulls you along at a nice steady pace, although it is very light, if you were an older person this would be usable from starting to using, the build quality seems a little childlike, as I said it is very light and this makes me feel it is not as sturdy as my last one but that is just how it feels to me and I am sure it is not an issue.
When it comes you have to add your own engine oil and fuel (unleaded), when adding the oil as in the video add it a bit at a time, as the oil takes a min to settle on the dipstick so you can easily over fill if you pour too much in, 1 review said they cannot store this and have to leave the handles up but that is not the case, simply unscrew the 2 large side handle holders just before they come off totally and then you can easily fold the top half of the handles over and lay it on the top of the mower as shown in the video, also when unscrewing these hold the 2 handle joins together keeping it close making it easier to unscrew the thread.
This mower is plastic but feels sturdy, my last one was metal and a lot heavier, hence the feel I get that it is not as strong but this I am sure that is psychological, but my last one rusted through the top and this was the reason I scrapped it and got this one.
Overall i would recommended it, it seems a great mower, modern, not loud, powerful enough, starts easily and so light you may not even need the propelled part as it is so easy to push.
The price of the SP41 is lower than it usually is right now and a big jump to the SP42 (£90) with only a 2cm extra cutting width, so go for the SP41 for value and quality.

The best lawnmower I have had. It is quite fast but you soon get used to that. It’s very light to use and cuts well. Easy to assemble too.

Excellent lawnmower. I could hardly keep up with it. Definitely worth the money.

Bought this to replace another brand that lasted 13-14 years (with no maintenance) before giving up, so it’s got big boots to fill.
I’m surprised to see how many reviewers had problems with the assembly, as I found it straightforward (and I’m no engineer), although putting the oil in was fiddly due to the position and angle of the oil filler cap.
Once fuelled up it started first pull and it instantly struck me as very noisy (and maybe even rattly) compared with my previous mower, which had a Briggs & Stratton motor.
Set it to a medium/low cut height to test it. Didn’t take much off.
No problems with the self propel mechanism that a lot of reviewers say is too fast. I found it just right, although it’s subjective of course. Remember, you don’t have to use it. I found myself using it on long straights, but pushing it myself on the fiddly bits. Overall seemed very easy to manoeuvre.
Have just used it again, with the cut set a notch lower. Seems quite a difference in cut height to the notch above it. This one gave a good cut. I think it’s now on the lowest cutting but one.
Took two pulls to start. It is nice not having to prime it before starting as I did with the previous mower. Still noisy but I think it does quieten down as the motor warms up. Again, found it easy to manoeuvre.
It is lighter than my previous one (more plastic) so easier to lift in and out of the shed
Not sure yet what petrol consumption will be like.
So far it’s worth a four star rating (loses one for the noise and the fiddly oil fill).

Excellent self propelled lawn
Easy to assemble
Starts on either first or second pull
No need to prime as it has an auto choke
Great choice of cut heights

This lawnmower is lightweight. I was going to return it when it arrived because I thought it seemed flimsy, but I was wrong, it is a really good mower, it starts very easily, reasonable quiet, and easy to use. It makes a good job of cutting the grass. I would have preferred a larger grass collector but it’s not a problem really. It was delivered the next day after ordering, it is easy to build but instruction manual could be better. I would recommend this lawn mower for its ease of use
