I read the reviews before I bought this potting bench. I knew it was not going to be industrial strength wood and it would need to be treated before I set it out in the garden. I had some “spring jasmine” coloured wood treatment left from painting a shed last year and so gave it a couple of coats. It looks wonderful. Better still the option of wheels or no wheels let the bench stand straight in a lightly sloped piece of garden.
The good bits: Easily set up, one person takes less than an hour to build and looks impressive set in the garden afterwards. I added a little bit of trellis between the bench and top shelf.
More importantly the potting bench is functional. The sink makes it easy to wash off compost and dirt, I added a few small hooks to the side so I could hang a trowel, fork, small brush, microfibre cloth and towel. The higher shelf is great for the Gardners necessities (at least in Scotland such things are) slug pellets, narrow seed trays and plant treatments.
The wood on the lower shelf is thin but sturdy and I am hoping now that it has been treated it will last. It seems sturdy enough.
I am very pleased with my new potting bench.
