Been playing with this for a week now, and I am really impressed with the overall performance. It boots up in seconds, and all of the apps/programs I’ve thrown at it run smoothly and quick. Granted these are mostly just everyday things – web browsing, office docs etc – but it also runs Civilization VI well.
My only problems with the machine are the trackpad/touchpad is bigger than I’m used to so hand placement has to be adjusted and you can’t change two finger scrolling other than on or off (my preferred side scrolling has been removed).
My biggest problem though is that the sound is awful, I mean I know there are speakers there but I really don’t know why they bothered (the six year old HP it is replacing was so much better). It’s so bad that I will be adding external speakers and would have given it less stars if the rest of the machine wasn’t so good. It’s an extra cost, but fortunately I got it at a reasonable price on a Prime day deal.

I love this laptop – it’s fast, powerful and has loads of storage. The only reason I’ve knocked off 1 star is because I need the Google Chrome browser for work, but every time I try to use it, it defaults to a Yahoo browser instead and I can’t find a way to get rid of it. So unless you particularly want to use the Yahoo browser, you are forced to use the Microsoft browser – which is excellent – it’s just that I needed the chrome browser. So apart from this one niggle, it’s a great laptop for the money.

I was surprised how easy it was to set this laptop up, possibly a benefit of having a Microsoft account.
Fast boot up and very quiet. Good screen resolution. Sound is OK but I wouldn’t expect audiophile resolution in a laptop so it does the job sufficiently.
The AMD processor manages everything with ease and makes battery life good too.
Not sure how durable the plastic will be in the long run but I’m always careful with my kit and it shouldn’t let me down.
Still getting to grips with Windows 11

Nice laptop with good processing speed. However, it is not touch screen (I had assumed all modern laptops were) and battery life isn’t great hence the 3 stars

I was looking for a fairly light 15-16″ laptop with 1TB HD and >8GB RAM – plenty of choice around the £500 mark but only a couple around £400-450 – one of which (Dell Inspiron) was fantastic spec, but got slated for over-heating (thank you Reviewers!). So this Acer was the remaining contender and has proven to be absolutely superb.
Pros:
– Great screen (but note it’s not a touch sensitive)
– Excellent spec for ~£450; i5 / 1TB / 16GB was plenty for what I needed (hard work, not gaming)
– Full keyboard (despite constantly hitting ‘Power’ when trying to ‘Delete’ – I’ll get there!)
Cons:
– No USB-C (I didn’t twig that was so much of a snag until researching USB Hubs, which must have USB-C not USB-B)
– Flimsy charging plug and cable (time will tell if that’s a snag)
If you can get it at ~£450 then it’s a bargain, but there are plenty of other (and potentially better) contenders at the ~£550 full price.

Needed a new laptop and decided on this Acer which seemed to be a good upgrade on what I had before.
Windows 11 takes a bit of getting used to but the machine itself seems good. Couldn’t find a “Home” button on the keyboard sadly.
Otherwise it so far is doing a good job.
