*** Updated review after a year
The watch is still going strong but I thought it might help prospective purchasers if I warned then that after all this time it *still* suffers from several glaring firmware bugs that Huami show little sign of wanting or being able to fix (despite being made aware of them a looong time ago). By ‘glaring’ I mean e.g. the watch is quite visible to read in bright conditions but when it first turns on after flicking your wrist, it will go bright, then dim, then take 2s to come bright again. Very annoying! Actually it can sometimes be very hard to make the watch display at all without getting your wrist position just so. Also dumb is the fact that I cannot turn the calendar function off; that is, I turn it off, but it turns itself on again next day. This wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the fact that calendar appointments always ding the notification even during DND periods. Dumb. Plus you can’t specify which calendars are synced: it’s all of them. Plus several other bugs I won’t bore you with.
So, you know, despite being a nice watch, it’s pretty annoying at times. I’ve deducted a star down to 3 stars.

Original review below…
Unlike most gadget watches, this one has an audible alarm. And a voice memo feature. And a calendar app that, while unable to sync with any external calendar such as Google Calendar, does allow the possibility of plugging in repeating events/alarms for mundane things such as pill reminders, taking the bins out etc. All of which sounds terribly old fashioned but is genuinely useful.
Less useful are the many gorgeous watch faces you can load on to it with more being added weekly, but boy are they nice to look at. It does all the fitness and health things too which are a bit of fun but not to be taken too seriously, with some of them still in need of firmware tweaking (apparently I was doing 60mph on my bicycle the other day, although the app corrected that down to a more believable 25mph when reviewing the journey later!).
And you can take and initiate calls on it, just like Star Trek.
There are still a few rough edges to the firmware but overall this is a lovely thing which should only get better as updates are rolled out.
Definitely pleased with it 😉

The Amazfit Pro was hopefully an improvement on all the other smart watches I’d had. I’d wanted a watch that I could wear while I slept instead of having to take it off to charge every night. The previous watches had been the Pebble, Fossil and Fitbit. Initially the watch performed very well, especially the battery life, the watch could go for 10 to 12 days before needing a charge. Unfortunately, 16 months later the watch has died. It is unable to hold a charge for more than 10 or 12 hours. I have tried a new charger, a complete reset, reinstalled the app etc. Nothing. It is a shame as the watch was pretty good. The App was a bit clunky but all the necessary health monitoring was there, step count, sleep, stand reminder etc as well as a large range of sports tracking, notifications and a decent amount of watch faces. The Amazfit did struggle sometimes to find a satellite when using the GPS but got there in the end. Hopefully, the latest models that Amazfit will have been able to maintain their charge. Unfortunately, I will not buy another of their watches. Instead I’ll research some more and find something better. I’m giving it 2 stars because it didn’t even make it to 2 years.

Had this watch for a while now. Many features are very good. Not sure how accurate the sleep feature is, but I guess it gives a rough idea of what’s going on. The heart rate is spot on as tested against a hammerhead heart rate monitor. Unfortunately this watch doesn’t have a triathlon feature but that’s not surprising if you consider how completely useless the open water swimming feature is. You can do a 1500 mtr swim in around 25 minutes but the watch says 14 mtrs in 12 seconds and that’s it, no other reading!

A nice-looking watch with a myriad of useful features. The step count appears accurate, but it seems out on sleeping patterns, especially Rem Sleep. It also seems a bit high on heart rate when checked against an Omron monitor. The print in the printed instruction book is very tiny and difficult to read. The set up took a little while but eventually it linked with my mobile phone.

Moved to this from a Huawei GT2, wanted something that could track indoor soccer and also liked the always on watch faces matching the normal watch face.
Some irritations however:
The speaker is a bit of a gimmick, with the GT2, on a run I’d get regular updates on pace, heartrate and distance – the GTR3P is silent on the run until I reach a goal set in Pace assistant.
Thermometer is pretty useless. currently reading 31.5c – not sure what this is supposed to measure, it’s not my body heat and certainly not the room temperature. I was under the impression it was a sensor for skin temperature and I could monitor when I’m ill etc – nope
Alexa and offline assistant is ok – although pretty limited – not sure I’d ever use either.
Rotating crown is nice – but when you find what you want, the normal reaction would be to press the crown to select the item however this just returns the watch to the watch face
Good points
Battery life is superb
GPS is quick – around 10 seconds to lock on
Zepp app is very good and comprehensive
150+ sports to choose from
Auto run/walk detection works well
PAI overall health score is a nice touch and really motivating.
Beautiful clear screen and quick release easily changed 22mm straps
Notifications work well for all apps, whatsapp etc (you can only read, not respond)
One Touch for all sensors to read you is a great idea and works seemlessly.
Overall it’s a small step up from the GT2 – if I can get the run coach working and work out how to overcome the other quirks I’ll add the extra star
