This seems robust – many of the plastic sand tools we’ve had have degraded and become brittle over time, whereas this seems to be made of a more robust type of plastic. I also really like that it is Eco. I do wish I had checked the dimensions before I bought, because it turns out that 20.5cm is tiny, much smaller than I was expecting. I wish they would make this in a larger size, I would buy it.

I bought these because the spades break so frequently I was becoming concerned about the environmental impact. These seem to be very strong because of their shape and proportions, plus being shorter they are easy to keep in the car for when we unexpectedly find a sand pit in a park.

These spades are small (only about 20cm long including the handle) but nice and sturdy. There was no feeling of weakness or flexion even when digging in wet sand with stones etc and I love the fact that they are made from wheat rather than from plastic. They pack neatly on top of each other too, so are good for travel when you have limited space. They are comfortable to hold too (even for adult hands), but obviously you can’t move as much sand and don’t have as much leverage as with a larger spade.
