Bought the 10 x 8 and 4 x 6 versions of this shed. Took 10+ weeks to get the 4 x 6 delivered, and nearly 13 weeks for the 10 x 8. Lots of apologies, different excuses every week when phoned after the fourth week (3-4 weeks delivery is advertise) Never did they actually give us what we asked for: an actual delivery date. Final delivery of 10 x 8 was with 10 minutes notice from courier.
Here are a few notes from the two Billy Oh sheds I bought through Garden Buildings Direct:
1. Mentioned in other reviews: felt is pathetic. I’ve temporarily capped the roof with plastic sheet until I get a good quality felt delivered, then I’ll use their feeble material as an underfelt and overlay with real stuff.
2. The kits come in many pieces: you have to add top and bottom rails to each panel (saves them time to assemble) but in the 4ft panels the centre post is almost always incorrectly positioned, so you have to trim one end to enable fitting either the top or bottom rail in the right position, leaving the opposite end short.
3. The 10 x 8 shed floor panels (6 panels) were off-square – most didn’t measure the same length in diagonals – so it took an hour just to set out and square them up. It’s very difficult to assemble a shed “square” from multiple panels if you don’t even have a floor assembled from square panels.
4. In both sheds the floor panels were short front and back, so the back wall and front panels are set overhanging each end by 15 to 20mm to split the shortage.
5. Many of the timber pieces are undersized compared to the listed section sizes.
6. Instructions say to use 50mm screws but only 40mm supplied so I used nearly a full box of my own in replacement.
7. 10 x 8 was short by ten 4ft T&G roof slats so I had to add two OSB 4 x 2 sheets to make up.
8. The window panes are painfully thin (think thick polythene bag rather than Perspex sheet) so they flop about in windy weather and let water in. I will be replacing the windows in the 4 x 6 and haven’t bothered fitting them in 10 x 8 – I’ll make up my own and use a proper thickness of Perspex.
9. Pent panels in 4 x 6 were made upside down so the T&G slopes, meeting horizontal boards on the main panels. Fitting the “right way up” to keep the boards horizontal tilts the front panel and leaves the upper rail for fitting the roof slats short, so you are forced to fit them upside down.
10. Corner fillets provided don’t fill the exposed front and back panel ends so I’ve had to buy larger section timber to replace the provided parts.
11. Most of the panels are very sloppily cut so on several panels the T&G extends beyond the vertical side posts making joining them impossible without trimming first.
12. There are splits and damaged slats on more than a few panels in both sheds.
13. The doors in their photos are ledge & brace, the doors delivered have 3 horizontal bars (ledge only) so they will sag unless braces are added.
14. We were told the 10 x 8 was dispatched in September which clearly it hadn’t been: it took another 4+ weeks before it actually was dispatched, and that was 9 weeks after order.
In summary: they describe themselves as “Superior Quality”. Nothing could be further from the truth. Customer support: you can’t phone direct, you have to call sales number and ask for them. Emails get stock replies with apologies but no answers to your questions. Never actually providing a delivery date – all you get is a dispatch notification that delivery will be in a 3-day range then at most 30 minutes warning of arrival, 10 minutes when it cam to the 10 x 8. Delivery has been so late I wasted over £200 on storing tools and equipment for two months which I couldn’t keep on so for the last month much of that has been soaked in the temporary lean-to shed I made believing delivery would be within weeks, as advertised, not months. I’ve told them of the significant cost and damage to my tools – they just say “sorry” and go no further to offer any compensation or just deliver what I paid them for months ago.
This company is a disgrace to UK business, part of a bigger firm Kybotech, or Garden Buildings Direct (all the same people) who we ordered from. They are competitively priced, so I didn’t expect magnificent quality, but what I got was shoddy, from every angle.
Dezna –
The shed itself arrived in loads of pieces, it’s like putting a jigsaw together, you have to download the instructions which is a bit of a nuisance, loads of knots, so a lot of holes to fill, the roofing felt isn’t really up to the job, we will have to replace after only a few weeks as it already leaks, its sturdy so that’s a plus. All in all not really worth the money we paid.
