    Don’t buy this machine!!!

I should start by saying that I’m a stay at home mom of a very active 3.5 year old toddler who I home educate….so I don’t often leave reviews because I have other more pressing things to do with my time. But, I felt compelled to write this to save others the hassle of purchasing a product that is cheaply made and will not last. I have several other bosch products which are well made and last….my favorite of which is the bosch electric screw driver https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00XI610R0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Sadly I cannot recommend this mower. I purchased the mower last summer ( June 28th), and used it for the duration of the summer. As many reviews say….it’s lightweight, but that’s about the only plus that I can think of. I didn’t try the grass catcher because I wanted my grass to fall on the lawn and to compost naturally and add nutrients back into the lawn. As for the rest of the mower, I agree with others who have mentioned this, that in terms of adjusting the blade position that it only cuts grass when the blades are mildly hitting the metal frame – and therefore the blades become dull quickly. I have only owned the mower for 1 grass cutting season ( actually only July and August and Sept really – since after that you don’t need to do much mowing again until the spring), but it started breaking and not working well immediately upon being used. Right away, the flimsy roller part that is supposed to keep it mowing evenly across your grass at a level height above your grass started to malfunction. It would not stay secured in place ( which is no surprise as the entire thing is plastic, and the handle which holds it in place and is affixed to a screw that is metal is also made of plastic). Anyway, right away the right hand side of the arm that holds the roller thing on to the actual metal frame of the mowing machine bent and constantly came out of place. When I tried to fix this and put it in place correctly, It would just come out of place again a few minutes later….I put up with it and let it cut my grass wonky….because I really didn’t’ care about having perfect grass….however the plastic handle that affixes to the screw that holds this whole apparatus in place just broke !! I was trying for the umteenth time to tighten it into place to get the roller part to stay where it needs to be ( because I was mowing my neighbors lawn and I didn’t’ want it coming out all wonky). Well that did’t work because trying to tighten it, just make the entire plastic part crack and break. Trying to use the mowing machine thereafter produces deep gashes in my neighbors lawn ( where the actual metal frame of the mowing machine was now dragging down against and into the soil. I tried to push it forwards and keep it level on my own with just the one side of the machine supported by the roller part – but this did not work. I grew up using a manual mowing machine to mow a lawn in the USA of our back garden there – it was about 150 feet long and about 45 feet wide – so very very large…..the only thing that my parents ever did to our machine was take it to get the blades sharpened. It was a heavier machine than this, but not larger than it in any way by my memory – however it was clearly a well built piece of machinery. It’s a pity that no one today appears to produce a decent manual lawn mowing machine….and that to get a decent one a person has to trove ebay and potentially pay several hundreds of pounds to get something which is truly gargantuan….but which works perfectly if you maintain it. Why companies bother making such rubbish products is beyond me…..when I searched for a mower last summer I spend about 10+ hours researching it….looking into fiskars (really expensive – which I decided would not work for my lawn as I need some kind of roller apparatus behind the mower to keep it level on the edges of my grass lawn where it meets the flower beds), and brill….and the other off brand name ones that are 30 pounds…in the end I concluded that no one makes a well made machine anymore….and that it’s probably better to get a brand name one like bosch that it still not too expensive than one for 30 quid….having now owned it for 1 year….my advise to you is if you want to mow manually and to not have a problematic machine – to go with a vintage one for sale on ebay…..or to buy a cheep one for 30 quid….and be happy to throw it away at the end of the season if it breaks down. I can’t see the reason to spend 150+ on a manual mower….I just can’t…and even poeple who bought the brill and fiskers had a lot of negative / shortfalls to say in terms of design. Grass cutting wise. My lawn looked great when we bought our house….but when I tried to use this machine to mow it, I found that to get it to look even, I needed to go over the grass from 2-3 different directions and 2-3 times over every place to get it to actually cut all the grass and cut it to the desired level. Now that’s the end of my review….and that’s 30 min less sleep for this busy mom tonight….but I hope it saves the rest of you from purchasing this.

Reasonably easy to assemble, adjustable for bumpy, average or smooth lawns (only needed once), adjustable height of cut, nice sharp cut grass edges for smooth finish. The rigid plastic grass box is light and can be removed easily for emptying by lifting straight up (i.e. without tipping it over the machine as other reviews have stated). Reasonably quiet in use after first adjusting the blades which was easy to do (tried using it as delivered but it was incredibly noisy and hard to push so the cylinder blades were obviously too tight to the bottom fixed blade).

It does leave a swathe of uncut grass of course around the edges of the lawn if you cut parallel to the lawn edge due to the wheels being outboard of the cylinder, so if that’s a problem for your lawn then you’ll need a strimmer as well or try to cut perpendicular to the lawn edge or have a lawn edged in say bricks for the wheels.

Overall very happy for the money, it doesn’t produce stripes on our lawn due the grass not being particularly fine but not a problem for us as we’re used to a rotary petrol mower without a roller anyway.

Much lighter than our old petrol mower to push and carry and quieter/cheaper to run. Will be interesting to see how it copes with the first cut of the season next spring.

Got this to do some kind of workout whilst I mow and it’s fab. Set it up in minutes. Do listen to other reviewers that you hear a distinct metal on metal type sound when the blade is set right. It will cut longer grass but I found you have to take collector bucket of for best result and slacken the blade off slightly so it doesn’t snag as much. When down to a reasonable level, regular cuts are easy. Free garden gym sessions, too 🙂 For context, I have around 3/4 acre. Worth every penny and straight forward to use.

This is the best lawnmower I have ever bought. The instructions do not have enough detail; however, if you read the manual in conjunction with the diagrams, it’s quite easy to put together. Once you have set your cutting length and the height of the collection box, then it’s a case of just going out and mowing the lawn. It is easier to manoeuvre than swinging a heavy weight about like some of the electrical mowers, and there is no electrical cable in the way. My lawn is a new lawn so I had it set at the maximum level. I am delighted with the results. Should you purchase this lawnmower, please read the instructions carefully, because that matters when you put it together.

Seems decent. I have an average sized lawn that is pretty uneven and this cut the grass quite well. Good range of cut heights. Make sure you adjust the blades if having trouble withe grass jamming – you need to hear the sound of metal rubbing metal when pushing (scissor sound). Easy to do when setting up initially. Watch out if you have a hedge as small pieces of hedge wood will jam it up. Also, the capture bin isn’t the best capacity wise or at retaining the cuts – buy a rake!
