I bought the DCM563P1 because my old cabled Bosch AHS 42-16 hedge trimmer stopped working. The fact that I already had a DeWalt cordless drill that takes the same battery helped me to make the decision to get the DeWalt hedge trimmer.

It’s a revelation to use a cordless hedge trimmer when I’ve used a cabled one for many years. It’s safer (no mains cables to worry about) and I was surprised to find that the DCM563P1 was more powerful than my old mains Bosch as I actually cut my hedge six inches lower than previous recent cuts, so I was cutting much more woody branches, which the old Bosch would not have done.

Battery life was good and better than expected, especially as I was cutting tough woody branches.

If you’re looking for a cordless hedge trimmer then you will not be disappointed with the DCM563P1. If you already have other DeWalt equipment that uses the same battery system then it really is a no brainer – get the DCM563P1!

I don’t know what type of hedge this is but it’s horrible to cut as the twigs/stems/branches/ whatever you call them are quite thick and it takes ages. I normally use an corded trimmer but with the weather being hit and miss i didn’t to risk plugs and extension leads, so i bought the DeWalt trimmer. I have a couple of DeWalt cordless drills so knowing the quality and interchangeable batteries it was a no-brainer. It cut through the hedge like a hot knife butter, no snagging, no clogging, just effortless! Battery life was excellent, on a 5ah battery i’d used one bar to cut the whole hedge. It is fairly lightweight but my arms were a bit aching after doing the top but the hedge is 6ft high and i haven’t been to the gym in a while lol. Yes it is expensive compared to other brands but you’re paying for quality, and even after one cut it’s fully justified.

So far so good I used solidly for an hour without any hiccups and battery was still good, and i have continually used over the last week and am pleased with the results its light and power didn’t drop as the battery ran down. Hopefully it will carry on in the same manner over the coming months.

The before and after photos do not really do the hedges justice. They cover two thirds of the garden’s boundary, are 12ft tall and nearly 6ft deep at their deepest. The hedges comprise of Holly, Conifers, Black Thorne, Elder, Ivy and another variegated hedging I do know the name of but escapes me – a proper hodgepodge!

My main reason for choosing cordless over petrol and mains is for ease. My current mains powered Black and Decker trimmers are great but the combo of mains cord, extension cables, mains breaker, ground covers, hedges clippings and ladders is a nightmare. You’d be amazed how taking mains and extension cables out of the equation has made my life safer and easier.
Hedge trimming is something I now look forward to with ease.

First impressions of the trimmers is they are responsibly light, well constructed with a neat trigger and cut out handle, nearly as powerful as any petrol I’ve used, as powerful as mains and cut the hedges on one charge – 18v 5amp battery as included.
I can’t fault my first experience with cordless DeWalt trimmers and would recommend these to everyone with mixed hedging like mine. They had no issues cutting all types of leaf and branch regrowth. The branches of Conifer regrowth were up to 20mm in places and the trimmers had no issues with them either.

I was looking to replace my old corded hedge trimmer that had an intermittent fault, I already had some cordless DeWalt tools that came with 2Ah batteries so liked the idea of a DeWalt trimmer. I could not believe that the price included large 5Ah battery and charger that is faster than my existing charger, as it was much cheaper than other sellers, so was pleased that it was complete.
I have just used for the first time, I have a 25-30 metres of tough mixed hedging, it easily coped with it and more convenient that getting out the extension lead, running across a neighbour’s drive and watching that I do not cut through the cable. I had another battery on standby but it was not needed.
    It was a good investment.

The product is efficient, robust and reasonably light. Battery ( 4ah) is enough to complete the tasks I undertake.

Comes with a battery and charger, as I already have a DeWalt cordless drill I stuck with the brand to have compatible batteries. I read a few reviews of battery time not lasting which I was worried about but I finished my hedges still on full battery, its cut so smoot, I had an old corded strimmer that used to do the job but this just halved the time with its better cutting ability. I have about 9/10 meters of hedges the I have to strim to a square shape.

Its is a little heavy but you can let that off when you think its cordless and you can feel the build quality is good.

I’ve bought plenty of stuff off Amazon, good and bad and never bothered to leave a review but this little tool surprised me. Despite having read plenty of good reviews about it, it still impressed. I’ve used it to cut mixed hedging with field maple, Hawthorne and Hazel with a full years growth and it goes through it easily. Its much easier to use than my old petrol trimmer, lighter (and it always starts). I cut thirty metres of tall hedge without having to change battery (which I certainly didn’t expect). I can’t vouch for its longevity as I’ve only had it a month but I’d never go back to petrol trimmers.
