Having sworn never to spend over £100 on a toaster, I found myself cornered with little choice due to the paucity of models available with wide slots. It appears that 99% of toasters are designed for people who only toast 5 inch square plastic factory bread. Presumably if you want to toast sourdough or a cob or any other daringly non-standard bread you are supposed to grill it or blow torch it. Baffling. As is the complete unavailability of models that will allow you to only use one slot. Our previous toaster did this, but I couldn’t find a single current model that would allow it.
So is the mega-toaster with the mega price any good? Well, when it works okay and you manage to hit the right setting via a lucky guess, it can make excellent toast, crisp on the outside and still a little soft in the middle. Unfortunately, it is all too easy to end up with burnt edges and barely toasted middles. The bagel mode is hopeless. If you do have the temerity to do one slice in one slot, expect it to cook differently compared to if you had bread in the other slot as well. Why this is a thing utterly escapes me.
Oh, and if you do chance the one slice anyway, expect it to be launched skywards out of the machine when it is done. It’s quite amusing to begin with, but wears thin quite quickly.
So overall, it’s okay. Perhaps it is worth £100+ because it was the only credible wide slot appliance I could find, but the end product doesn’t justify the price. My old £30 toaster was no better or worse.
EDIT: reduced to two stars, and even worse than I originally thought. Having your single slice (blasphemer!) of toast launched, yet again, out of the toaster, across the worktop and onto the floor is not amusing. Having to nurse a single slice through toasting, to the extent of having to turn it around half way, is also not a great use of my time. Why, in the name of all that is holy, does cooking one slice mean that the toaster can only properly brown one side of the bread? That’s so perverse it almost feels designed in.
This machine is frankly a rip off at over £100. It simply isn’t a good enough product to justify that price, and I’d be hacked off with it if it had only cost me £30. All of my previous toasters, all of which were more or less £30, were better than this over-designed, under-performing toaster-shaped object.

The toaster looks great, and because it toasts quickly it means bread stays softer/fluffier on the inside and is crispy on the outside.
The slots are also generously long, especially compared with the Sage A Little Bit More long slot toaster which I also own.
Downsides are that it does tend to burn the edges of bread, even after several weeks of use to help it break in, so keep an eye on your toast, especially sourdoughs, if you’re using a setting higher than 3.
The additional bun warmer is also great, but will burn your buns if you don’t keep a close eye – this toaster really does give off a lot of heat.

Before buying this, I read dozens of the reviews. Some said it was the best toaster they’d ever owned and gave 5 stars, whilst many reported the complete opposite. How can you make a judgement with so many conflicting reviews?
I decided to be optimistic and go for it, based on the solid brand and the fact it looked so great in terms of its aesthetics and list of functions.
Sadly, after sticking with it and using daily for a couple of weeks, I was able to make up my own mind – the 1-star reviews have it.
The fundamental problems described by so many people are true – it appears to simply be too powerful, consistently burning the edges of the toast time after time. If you want the body of the bread to be adequately browned you have no choice but to sacrifice the crusts, watching the wisps of smoke rise and then cutting the black bits off before eating. To have a product that fails so categorically in its prime function is not only surprising, but infuriating. It’s not defective, it’s just bad.
I am pleased that Amazon have such a straightforward refund policy as I have now returned it and been refunded.

Looking at all the reviews I wasn’t going to order this toaster but I needed a long slot toaster as my second Kenwood once again blew up just after the guarantee ran out so this to me looked good despite the poor reviews I thought I’d draw my own conclusions. First try was with frozen bread, not very good at all, one side white the other burnt ! Next, fresh Warburtons toastie, read somewhere setting 2.3 was good for this so set the same, result…..perfect light golden all over, tried 2 more pieces on same setting perfect again. Tried next day and it popped up a little under done so pushed it back down again and stood over it lifting slots occasionally until done to liking, fine, that’ll do me I thought and it toasts evenly. Ok so frozen bread not to good but I don’t cook from frozen that often so don’t mind. Build quality is very good plus it feels solid and well built. I’ll see how it goes and update if any problems. Would recommend this product now I’ve tested, the browning control is very sensitive just a couple of clicks either way can make a big difference and I think that’s the problem other reviewers may of had. Experiment to get it right. Hope this helps in your decision to buy or not.

Long slot toasters seem to rare. This fits all the non square loaf bread easily. Honestly I’ve never had much time for trusting the browning level on any toaster – so didn’t really put any attention to the reviews complaining about that. I leave it on 3 and if stuff needs a bit longer I just pop it back down for a bit. The first toast is always less than the subsequent in a roasting session – just because it’s already warm ? Either way it’s not an issue. Looks good. I wish Dualit would make a long slot version of their classic range however.

This toaster does what they all should do, which is to evenly toast the bread overall on both sides!
