I’ve had a classic dualit toaster for decades but never got the matching kettle as it seemed rather expensive especially since kettles tend not to last too long in our hard water area. A recent visit to a family member who has just purchased one of these convinced me to finally purchase the kettle too. It has a lovely pour, right to the last drop, unlike my previous dalek-shaped kettle which could not cope with pouring the last drops without dumping hot water all over the worktop. The shape of the spout on this kettle means steam is not jetted up to the underside of my kitchen cabinets and under unit lights. The on/off switch has a nice chunky feel to it and the boil is quiet and not overly long unlike my old kettle which sounds like it is about to go into orbit when boiling. I like that the lid is hinged so I don’t have to find somewhere to put it while filling. I like that the upright design takes up less space on my worktop. I like that it can have the element replaced and that I get to buy a refurbished kettle on Amazon that looks brand new for a lot less money. All in all I am very happy with my purchase and only hope it lasts as long as my wind up toaster.

Good but very expensive

It’s a long time since I owned an electric kettle. I get so fed up with them lasting until about a week past the end of their warranty period, so I have been using a Le Creuset hob top for years. But this one, being a Dualit, can be repaired if it gives up the ghost, so I’m giving it a go. It’s as beautiful as you could reasonably ask a kettle to be. Very nice and shiny. No ghastly blue lights, or any other colour for that matter. Very quiet and very, very fast. I had forgotten how fast electric kettles are. And it matches my toaster. So, here’s hoping my Le Creuset will be happy sitting in the cupboard.

The Dualit Classic Kettle | Polished Stainless Steel with Black Trim arrived in a branded cardboard box. The kettle is beautifully designed and crafted. It boils very quickly and is super quiet (our old one sounded like a tractor!). I love the fact that the lid is a ‘pull up’ lid not button operated.
There are clear cup/litre measurements on each side.
The pouring spout is excellent as it does not leave any drip marks.
The kettle has a high price point but the quality is worth it…we have a dualit toaster which we are still using after 20+ years.

I did the research and by all accounts it appeared that this would be the best electric kettle and worth the price. Alas, that was not the case. It boiled the water perfectly eight times before it boiled its last. I was rather surprised. Despite careful electrical supply checks, this kettle gave up the ghost after less than one week. I contacted the company (not without some cheek) and I have included that exchange below. In the end I returned the kettle and bought instead an enamelled stove top model from a reputable French company (Le…) and I am happy to say that it has been working perfectly fine for almost a month – perhaps not quite as fast but in a completely different league when it comes to reliability.
Dear Dualit,
I just purchased your stainless steel kettle through Amazon.co.uk. where I will be leaving a one star review for it shortly. The kettle looks beautiful and worked well for 4 days (meaning that it boiled approx. one litre of water 8 times) and then it stopped working. To be fair it works for a very short period of time, 5-10 seconds, and then switches off. I have tried it at least 20 times – double checking if there was problem with the outlet – but no, the kettle seems to not want to boil water anymore. How disappointing. I first researched this kettle and then spend a fair bit of money on it; now I don’t know whom to trust or turn to. Is it really so hard to make a reliable electric kettle? Can you direct me towards a manufacturer whose products you trust to work? Any advice in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
With kind regards,
Paul Nieman
Their reply:
Dear Paul Nieman
Thank you for your email enquiry. We are very sorry to hear you are experiencing problems with your Dualit kettle.
We produce many appliances every year with relatively few complaints. As I am sure you can understand, sometimes things do go wrong and it is very unfortunate that you have had to be one of the people to have had an issue. Obviously, we would have hoped that the kettle would have provided longer service but sadly this cannot always be the case, such is the nature of electrical appliances. Unfortunately, we are unable to repair these kettles due to the nature of their construction.
As your kettle would still be under the warranty period, I would suggest that you refer to the retailer for assistance.
Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience
Best regards
