This is a great machine. It’s quite expensive, but is well designed and sturdily made. The tools click on and off the vacuum neatly.
It is powerful but lightweight. I don’t find holding the ‘on’ switch a problem, it’s not a strong spring and with this type of appliance I am usually doing short bursts of suction so in fact it’s better than a conventional on/off button.
I have bought only one accessory so far, the mattress tool. This is useful not only for mattresses but for delicate rugs and upholstery. Unless you are sure you need one of the accessory packs I would wait to see if the included tools meet your needs before adding more.
The main head is wide and motorised and, used with the extension tube, is very effective on rugs and hard floors. Its main feature, the ability to swivel all round and lay flat to the floor is brilliant for getting under furniture and into corners. It picks up cat hair easily.
The crevice tool is good for getting down the sides of cupboards and for cobwebs on the ceiling!
The dust collection container design is neat – press a switch, the bottom drops open and the fluff drops out. Just make sure it’s over your bin before you do it.
The battery life has been fine for me. I keep it plugged in and it hasn’t let me down yet.
All round a well designed, well built vacuum. I’m delighted with it. I have wooden floors with rugs downstairs and the upright Dyson hasn’t been needed there since I bought the Animal.

Initially, it was the best thing since sliced bread. My wife loved it to bits. It was light-weight, powerful, and it had enough charge to go round the house. It is easy to use without tiring your wrist. Seeing the amount of dirt and everything else that it picked was indeed satisfying. We never knew the carpet was so dirty. We found the best way to clean the cylinder was to use our old ‘Henry’ to suck it clean; no more clouds of dust as you try to empty this baby.
However, only after two and a half weeks, the dodgy trigger problem similar to other users start occuring. So it was juttering like an old car on a frosty morning.
In the end, we decided this could be a long term problem that even if we replace the parts, it could easily happen again. We promptly sent it back for a refund. It is such a shame because the first two weeks were a joy and it thoroughly deserves a five star rating. Now until if Mr Dyson can resolve these annoying niggles, I would not have the confidence in buying another Dyson product.
Maybe, this problem does not happen to everyone; but there is always a risk!!

Have twin toddlers whose current mission in life is to make as much mess as possible! I was fed up with trying to find dustpan/brush etc and walking through crumbs, and hoovering at 1am. Put off buying this for ages because of the price, but when I saw it for £199 I eventually caved.

Does what it says on the tin…hoovers well, even on carpets
Makes life so much easier…not having to search for dustpan and brush, and get out a big heavy hoover…just a little nip around and crumbs etc are gone.

Easy to use with its swivel head…can carry a toddler and vacuum with great ease…thus creating a feeling of being ‘Super Mum’ lol!
Like the fact that you have to press the button down whilst using it as not tempted to keep it running whilst moving it to the next spot to be hoovered…so you don’t end up needlessly waisting the charge.
Easy to empty.

The cost…for what it is!
For that price I would expect more…ie a countdown so you know how much charge it has left/abiltiy to pick up wet spills
Doesn’t fit other dyson or vacuum cleaner heads/parts
Will only pick up things that are smaller than a sweetcorn using the normal head…so the dustpan search begins again!
The plastic parts appear to be quite flimsy and I wonder how long it will last.
I didn’t find the instructions very clear on how to charge it and get it off of the charger…very easy when I worked out how.
But overall do not regret buying it, and would recommend.
