It works well enough and has good suction, however the only steel in this vacuum is the shaft inside the motor. I feel you have to be extremely careful using it, as it feels like it could fall apart at any minute.

Wanted a lightweight good quality vacuum cleaner and that is exactly what I got!! Good quality machine, although the roller ball takes a bit of getting used too. Instruction leaflet could be a little clearer, although managed in the end.

If I have one small criticism it’s that the hose is difficult to get in and out of the casing to use the extension but I expect that will loosen with time.

Suction is good but there are drawbacks too. The hose when extended to use the conenctors, it just doesn’t provide any angle to clean the corners. Its very hard to clean the corners. Also the level of noise made by this hoover is aweful. You just can’t listen anything else when the hoover is in operation.

Thought a new Dyson would be an improvement on my old one – how wrong can you be??
It doesn’t work so well on hard floors when picking up anything bigger than dust, it just blows items away.
The lead is small compared to other vacuums I’ve had.
The extension hose isn’t long enough. I struggle to hoover the first turn of the stairs without a balancing act with the machine.
I find it awkward to return to the upright working mode after using the extension hose.
The tools provided are neither use nor ornamnent and have reverted to using the tools I got with my previous Dyson.
When I contacted Dyson about an offer posted on their registration site for free additional tools, they weren’t available to me because I’d bought on-line.
It falls over at the drop of a hat.
I’m only waiting for it to break down so I can justify binning it. Diane H

If you’re looking for a vacuum cleaner to encourage ‘slow living’ this is the vacuum cleaner for you. Why quickly wizz the dyson around to pick up your Christmas tree pine needles after Christmas when you can rest on your knees for an hour like it’s 1908 and sweep the entire tree up with a dustpan and brush. All while your useless dyson, who doesn’t ‘do’ pine needles, sits there doing what it’s good at – nothing. Also has an allergy to dog fur, dust and pretty much anything I’ve ever asked it to pick up. Save yourself money and energy and get a Miele! Oh and have I mentioned how needy dyson cleaners are. There are so many filters, pipes, nooks and crannies which require cleaning, defuzzing and caressing every three seconds when attempting to vacuum with it! So like I said, this dyson is totally up for anyone who has lots of time on their hands.

I received this vacuum which I thought was new, no it was not and in very poor condition (wish I would have taken pictures), the brush roller hardly had any brushes left on the roller, the vacuum head was very warn, and the box it came in was well used also. After I returned this vacuum I discovered there was a 30% restocking fee, outrageous. Save yourself a lot of time and money, do not buy this used vacuum.

I read the reviews before I bought the DC50 and they nearly put me off. Thank goodness they didn’t, this must be the best Dyson yet. Criticism of short extension for stairs is unfounded, this is so light that you can hold it easily in one hand and vacuum as you go. Incredible suction. The only negative from my point of view is that the power lead is rather stiff, making it look untidy when stowed, but heyho a small price to pay. Would buy it again tomorrow.

This Dyson rocks! It glides through my carpet like butter picking up microscopic bits of dirt I didn’t even know was there! Obviously this is my first Dyson and I will never purchase another brand in my life! I needed a compact vacuum because I own Swiffer Sweeper Vac which is my favorite for hardwood floors and a Swiffer Mop and a Bissell Multi Surface Vac and a Bissell Spot Clean Rug Shampooer and they all have their perfect place making my life easier but I felt I needed a regular vacuum as well because I didn’t want to ruin the Bissell Multi Surface using it on a day-to-day basis on all my carpets, rugs and floors. I have 50% hardwood floor‘s and 50% carpeting so I didn’t need a huge industrial vacuum but this exceeded all my expectations for a compact vacuum! I have a family of four along with a small yet very fluffy dog and a Persian Kitty so I’m constantly vacuuming.. I have been using the Dyson daily for about a week now and I can’t think of one negative thing to say about it! It is amazing and I highly recommend it!

We bought this hoover because of its mobility, because health problems mean carrying a heavy hoover up and down stairs is now a problem. The drawback is it feels a bit flimsy.
The other drawback is that the extended hose does not reach all the way up a normal household flight of stairs, and the tools at the end of the hose when fully extended cannot be angled to clean stairs. You have to carry the vacuum up the stairs in one hand (not a problem, it’s v light) while hoovering the stair with the other hand, with the extension as short as it will go, as that is the only way you can get the cleaning tool at the right angle.
In normal hoovering mode, no problems, v powerful.

I’m loving my new Dyson! As always with Dyson products, the instructions were naff but I treated it like a lego kit and it was soon clipped together and raring to go. I started in my bedroom on my new deep pile carpet. Not good. It was really hard work and I kept needing to press the multi floor adjustment button. I cheered up again however when vacuuming the rest of the house. The other carpets, laminate and vinyl were fine as were all my rugs. A month later and my bedroom carpet is getting easier to vacuum, maybe it was because it was new???? I don’t have a problem with the short hose as it does the job it’s intended for and all the attachments also work well. I always use my handheld Dyson for the stairs anyway so won’t be using this one for that job.

As other reviewers have mentioned, it is powerful and I was amazed by how much dust my very old Dyson had left behind ( and the carpet was new!!) If you don’t empty the cylinder before it reached the full line, it tends to get stuck in there and you need to put your hand in to pull the dirt out. It really is quite adorable and not too noisy either. I recommend this product
