I very rarely write product reviews unless something is so good or so bad that it’s worth alerting potential customers about the product. Unfortunately, this machine defies its namesake and falls way short of my expectations. Some reviewers have compared this multi-hundred dollar machine to a $30 Swiffer WetJet. Let me tell you, it worked more poorly than a WetJet in my experience. At least with a WetJet you can apply more cleaning liquid when the pad starts to become dry. Not with the Dyson. You have to replace each dried pad with a new wet pad, which becomes burdensome when trying to clean a medium to large sized space. Not to mention expensive. BTW, when I say replace with a new wet pad, I should say replace with a new damp pad. The pads are nearly identical to a Clorox wipe in terms of thickness and wetness. I could really only clean a 5’x5′ space before I needed to get a new pad. The pads on the Dyson are not thick absorbent pads like on the Swiffer. If I didn’t already have a Dyson Animal, which I love, I would simply have purchased some different attachments and used this as a portable vacuum. But now I’ve got two of essentially the same thing, one of which works nothing like I expected.
Having purchased Dyson products for a number of years and being fully satisfied with those purchases, I was comfortable giving this machine a shot. I’m surprised Dyson agreed to put their name on this product it is so poorly thought out. For those who are looking for a good hard floor cleaner, I implore you to try something else. I purchased the Hoover Floormate Deluxe for a fraction of the price of the Dyson and it works phenomenally. As a test, I ran the Dyson vacuum/wet pad over my kitchen floors and then used the Hoover over the same area immediately afterward. The Hoover water was brown having picked up a ton of dirt left behind by the Dyson.
To summarize this machine in two words: BUYER BEWARE!

I was quite happy to discover that this product works as describes; vacuums dirt and wipes grime. I’ve been hoping for a machine that combines suction with wet pads and this fits the bill. Please note that I do not have kids or pets.
The unit takes 3.5 hours to charge and provides 15 minutes of suction on normal setting and 6 minutes at max setting. I believe the short run time is because of the extreme suction – I’m happy to make that trade-off. I used it with the wet pad to clean hardwood and tile; I used just the wand to clean spider webs from corners. The dirt is deposited in a canister that empties through the bottom by pressing a latch. I was shocked at how much grim was picked up after the first use – apparently, there was a lot my steamer with no suction was missing.
The only negative is that you have to pull the trigger the entire time you want it to run – your finger may get a little tired. I wish there was a mechanism to keep the trigger depressed, but I suspect Dyson did not include that in order to provide more suction time on the battery.
Overall, I’m very happy with the product.

I live in a very small apartment with hardwood floors plus have two very hairy dogs. I went ahead and spent the money and purchased the Dyson Hard. I’ve been using it for a few days now and here are some of my thoughts.
1. Simple to setup and use. It was easy to get started, although I at first thought it wasn’t charging because the light on the unit did not light up when I plugged it in (no, I did not read the directions). I realized the light on the actual plug shows you when it has charged.
2. I bought a 36 pack of Swiffer wet mopping refills and they work with the Hard just fine. I found the Dyson wet pads do not last very long, although they do smell nice. They also left some streaking on a laminate hardwood floor in a portion of my apartment.
3. It doesn’t pick up everything. It has some trouble with large “dust bunnies” and they tend to get wet and spit back out on another portion of the floor.
4. I wish the unit had an adjustable height – I find myself bending over to a lot, especially when I have to scrub some dirt off the floor.
5. The unit is fairly quiet. I thought it would be pretty loud. The noise does go up when you have it on the “max” mode.
Overall, I am pleased so far with the Hard. It saves time, and works with other mopping products which is a huge plus. I would caution people with laminate floors because of the streaking, but perhaps I am just using the wrong wipes. I will try to post more when I’ve used it for a while longer, but so far so good.

I was really excited when this product came out because I was sick of the multi-step process of cleaning my hardwood floors. However, I read all of the reviews on Amazon and delated my purchase hoping the kinks would be worked out and a better product would emerge. But then I saw this product on Home Depot’s site and it had terrific reviews, as well as on Macy’s… So I bit the bullet and ordered it. I don’t know what the people buying fro. The Home Depot and Macy’s gift that I didn’t, but this product does not live up to its Dyson name. The suction isn’t impressive, and the mopping capability is even worse. I went back over all my floors with my regular swifter wet and you should have seen how dirty the swifter pad was! I would return this product if the box hadn’t arrived from amazon torn the shreds.

A good price for a Dyson, but I think the rubber edges need to be trimmed down a bit for the wipes to be effective on hardwood floor. Also, when mine arrived, the long metal tube from the vacuum head to the body was dented in a few places. It doesn’t affect performance, so there’s no need to return it, but kind of annoying since it was supposed to be shipped as a new product.
