My last mini Cafetière died in a freak kitchen/gravity accident. This one is a worthy replacement, and has been made by a manufacturer who seems to have put a bit of effort into making it. The glass beaker is crystal clear and blemish-free. The screen printing on the glass is perfect and even includes a ‘for hot water’ legend, which is a nice touch. The plastic frame is good quality and holds the beaker firmly, but not so tight that power tools are needed to release it for cleaning. The other really nice thing about the frame, is the mould line has been completely removed, making the contoured handle really nice to hold, as there are no sharp edges under your thumb and fingers. There are no washing instructions, but the box does include instructions for the trick you can do with a Cafetière to use it as a hot milk frother. If you live life on the raggedy edge, and put the Cafetière in a dishwasher, I am fairly certain that you will end up with one of two results. Either a glass beaker with all of it’s lovely screen printing gone, or a dishwasher full of tiny glass shards. Other than hand-wash only, I’d say this cute little Cafetière is just about perfect. Just in case anyone wants to use it like me (under a Breville VKJ142 Hot Cup machine), the Cafetière is 140mm tall without the plunger lid, and fits the Breville perfectly!

It’s well priced and works well and it is easy to use. The glass is easy to clean but coffee granules often get stuck under the net of the press. The glass pot can be washed in the dishwasher from my experience but the press itself needs to be handwashed so you can pull the net back gently to wash out the coffee. The seal between the press and the pot isn’t perfect either and there can be a few coffee granules that pass through when you press down but it is very minimal. Overall, it’s very good for the price but cleaning isn’t as simple as just throwing it in the dishwasher.
