We bought our first one in the summer and after a couple of months it lost suction. Luckily Amazon were brilliant and swapped it for a new one but after just 6 weeks the second one’s lost suction too. Best avoided.

I’ve had a lot of vacuums in the past with varying levels of success, and over time we’ve leaned towards more portable and lightweight ones due to how busy and complex the household can be (especially with lots of little ones running about), but they tend to be too weak and ineffective for the carpets and flooring…

So I was really curious about the Hoover HF2. It’s been about 2 months at this point, with regular use, and it’s really impressed us. Despite being cordless, it actually outperforming some of the plugged-in models we’ve tried in the past. It has surprising power and even handled our thick carpet without any trouble, which I didn’t expect from a cordless vacuum.

I’m also happy with how easy it is to maneuver; the floorhead glides really smoothly and doesn’t feel stiff at all (it’s actually quite loose), making it simple to get around furniture and into tight corners. Making slight curved movements isn’t at issue at all here. Plus, it just picks up dirt and even hair with ease, which has made cleaning a lot less of a chore. The built-in LED light turned out to be way more useful than I thought, highlighting dirt and dust that I probably would have missed otherwise—it certainly shows how much dirt can seem invisible from above…

The vacuum has three power modes, but I quickly realized that even on the lower settings, it does a great job. In fact, I initially wasn’t too happy with this vacuum due to the extremely short battery life when set on the strongest mode—it drains in just a few minutes and will hardly cover one room—but after using it for a bit, I found that I didn’t really need that high setting for most of my floors. It’s only for very specific situations. On the medium and low settings, the battery lasts long enough to clean the whole house, so it hasn’t been too much of a problem. That said, a bigger battery would definitely have made it even better—the rating capacity isn’t very high.

In general, going cordless has been so helpful. Not having to constantly switch plugs, being stuck in sections of the house, having to worry about tangled cords and tripping hazards when the little ones are about… it’s just so handy. And it performs better than many of them. I’m amazed.

    Pros:

I must say that the Hoover HF2 is very light and easy to operate. It is great for light cleaning sessions and can access most of the tight spaces with ease.

The compact design is one of the most critical positives for me because it is easy to store, and is essentially space-efficient.

    Cons:

The first Hoover I got the battery was dead right after I used it once. That’s super frustrating. I contacted Amazon, and they replaced it with a new unit.

The replacement Hoover worked for a while, but now the brush head completely stopped spinning. That makes it practically useless, especially on carpeted surfaces, which is one of the main reasons I chose it in the first place.

When it was working, I found the suction power very inconsistent. For quick cleans, it’s fine, but with larger or more thorough jobs, it just does not keep up.

    Verdict:

I am totally gutted with Hoover. The hope was that this would indeed be a reliable addition to my cleaning routine, and now with the dead battery and then this brush head malfunction, I really can’t recommend it. Yes, it is lightweight and easy to use, but the lack of reliability and consistent performance just lets it down. For the price paid, I had expected a lot more.

It is very lightweight and also comfortable to clean above shoulder height as it is not too heavy. There are three power settings but other than varying noise levels the suction isn’t much different between them.

The floorhead is horrible. The brushes are so soft that they do not groom the carpet very well.

I decided it is not suitable to continue use in my house but decided to keep it to use on my artificial grass in the garden; which it is perfect for.

I find a conventional vacuum cleaner hard to use as I always seem to get tied up in the cable. Having had difficulties with cleaners I have now decided to do the cleaning myself, so bought this cleaner to do most of the job. At nearly 82 yrs old I find it really hard work, but this rechargeable vacuum makes it possible.
