I got the RTX 3080, Ryzen 7 5800x, 16GB RAM model. Normally wouldn’t go the prebuilt route, but with the current cost of individual parts, I decided to give it a go.
First off, the machine came with Windows 11 pre-installed, but was advertised as Windows 10 with the option to upgrade later. Not a massive deal for me, but could be a pain for those who were looking to stick with Windows 10 for the timebeing.
It comes with some bloatware. McAfee, some HP stuff, Express VPN, and the Omen Gaming HUB. The Gaming HUB software allows for easy customisation of the RGB, clock speeds, voltages, etc. (Although I haven’t really noticed a difference with any of the fan profiles) One other problem with the software is that it never seems to save my lowered voltage settings.
As for the build itself, it seems well put together and the cables are pretty tidy. The case looks great, but at the cost of some airflow. GPU seems to cap out at 73C under 100% load which is great, but the CPU idles at 50C and seems to push up to around 83C under load before the fans kick in, regardless of profile. Undervolting from the default 1.3V to 1.1V seems to be the sweet spot for me. It knocks a good 10C off the temperature and the system remains stable. It’s a slight pain, however, that it reverts to the default upon switching off and on. The CPU fan itself gives an almighty whoosh at those temps, but isn’t as loud as it first seemed, as it seems to get drowned out when my speaker volume is at just 8.
As for performance, it’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it so far. Sticking with 1080p gaming on my 144hz monitor and seeing great results with ultra settings and max ray tracing. Forza Horizon 5 generally sits around the 144fps mark with dips to 100fps in extreme conditions with lots of reflective surfaces. (Puddles, other cars, etc). Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition is showing similar results, but with highs of up to 200fps when underground.
Good system overall, with room to upgrade in the future.

For what was 5 years newer than my GTX 1080 I did expect a jump In visual joy….. wasn’t that really much better to be honest. The only real big change was in boot times. Build quality LOOKED good but had a few hangs in game play which resulted in having to reduce visual settings from what had been fine with the 1080!!? This should have been a sign of impending doom? Less than 2 weeks it refused to even boot into POST screen and beeped alarms . Tried what was expected to do via forums and support posts to no avail. Decided to try Amazon support as one last resort who then put me though to HP who were as much help as a chocolate fire guard. The short coming of this PC being a missing serial number. Which wasn’t on the right side of the case. Lack of proper documentation etc also quite poor. Just a quick guide set up and that was it. A power cable was also the ONLY cable included so watch out for that. Maybe I got a Friday pm build or just unlucky? Whi knows, but for a 1000 pounds I did expect more. A the point of writing this its winging its way back to Amazon at my 20 pounds postage cost which I hope I get back……..should I chance another one?? Would have thought buying a brand would lower the risk….clearly not

If you’re looking for a top-end ultra-capable all-singing & dancing gaming computer, look elsewhere – and be prepared to spend shedloads more for it too.
BUT if (like me) you’re looking for an upgrade for an aging ‘puter, maybe for a child who is beginning to develop an increasing appreciation of computer gaming as they get older, then this HP Omen with a Ryzen 5600 and Nvidia 3060 graphics could fit the bill nicely without breaking the bank too severely.
First impressions after plugging everything in & switching it on?
First, WOW it’s quiet – it makes way less noise than the old lappy it’s replacing. In fact I reckon it makes less noise than my own reasonably-quiet modern laptop. For those who might have read elsewhere about earlier versions of these being hot and/or noisy, well this newer model has (I think) better cooling and it runs pretty cool even when gaming. Impressive so far then.
Second, the build quality seems pretty reasonable for the price point too. Okay, it’s not like a custom build (up until fairly recently I always built my own) and there may well be options or other things that you would prefer which this doesn’t have BUT you would really struggle to buy the individual components alone for the price of this ready-to-use Omen, on top of which it does look pretty darned good too.
It has reasonable upgrade potential too before hitting the inevitable cost vs performance increase conundrum, so this really does – for current needs here at least – seem to be a really good mid-range gaming computer.
If anything changes my opinions I will update this review but for now I have to say that I’m really quite impressed by this computer, and being impressed is not something I say very often.

Hope it turns out to be a great PC. But having spent 14 hours so far setting it up, it could be a while before I find out. Things as simple as setting it up without connecting to the internet are not possible. This means you cannot use a local account to set up, but are forced to use an existing MS account. Why on earth I’d want to sync a PC for GAMING to all my devices is a mystery. Most of the time has been spent ridding the machine of unwanted Bloatware or Crapware if I wasn’t polite
