I got the Husvarna 110iL as a base for other attachments Husqvarna makes. I was particularly interested in the pole saw and long reach hedge trimmer I saw on their website.
As a trimmer and edger, the 110iL leaves a lot to be desired. First, I am about 5’5″ and had a hard time moving the non-trigger handle to a position that felt comfortable. The battery is too heavy and the trimmer head is too light for a good balance that allows you to move the trimmer head precisely. The edging feature involves turning the motor on its side and letting the weight of the motor rest on a wheel. This is also an awkward operation as you have to unicycle your way down a curb, sidewalk, or driveway in a manner that keeps the string in the zone between the hard surface and grass.
The included trimmer cord is pretty thin… probably 0.065″. Unfortunately, you can’t wind up thicker cord without modifying the spool as the starting slot isn’t wide enough to accept anything else.
If you have a thinner bladed grass and a smaller lawn, this trimmer might work OK for you. I have St. Augustine and the 110iL had trouble cutting through what should have been just normal duty. This piece of equipment might be relegated to be a power head only for hedge trimming and branch cutting… but to be honest… I’ll probably end up with a different power head that has better trimmer/edger performance.

There was no installation manual. There was a couple of parts that were left over that weren’t even on the parts list and I went to use it the first time and it stopped cutting so I took took cap off and there was still plenty of line in there but it wasn’t advancing the first time I used hadn’t used it through a half an hour

This review is for Husqvarna 110iL FLXi Cordless Grass Trimmer and Edger, Attachment Capable Battery Weed Trimmer with Battery and Charger Included, Extension Pole for Longer Reach. The entire unit weighs about 10 lbs (~4.5Kg) so it’s not super light, but it is amazingly powerful and lasts a long time on a full charge. We have an old Worx cordless trimmer and the rechargeable battery is tiny compared to this one (40-B140, 4Ah 144Wh). We could never finish the job without stopping to recharge the batteries. We even have two batteries and still couldn’t get the job done without recharging. Granted, they’re old and don’t hold their charge very well. So having this trimmer has been a great timesaver. We charged it for ~2 hours and it was ready to go. I was able to finish the job easily on a single charge with plenty more juice to go.
The unit arrived as two separate pieces with two different assembly/operation manuals – one for the upper half with the battery compartment and one for the attachment itself, which can be swapped out for different tasks (blower, hedge trimmer, pole saw, etc). It’s actually an ingenious design! Instead of buying so many different power tools, just buy different attachments! Anyway, both pieces were very easy to assemble and pretty intuitive. There wasn’t much to assemble but everything needed to get the job done was included. Easy peasy. Note: Be careful when removing the battery from the handle because it can pop out very quickly. I was standing in the garage removing it to recharge when I did that and it dropped to the ground. No damage but something to keep in mind. Overall, this has to be the best trimmer and edger that I’ve used so far. I love how easy it is to switch between them. I also love the interchangeable design and how powerful it is on a single charge. Husqvarna is a very well known brand so I am pretty sure that I can find more accessories, parts and batteries for it in the future. I’d give it a 5.0/5.0 – 04/03/2025.

I’ve now had the opportunity to put this trimmer through the paces, and I’m definitely happy with the function, look, durability, and weight. The battery charges up relatively quickly and lasts for at least my entire backyard and front yard. I don’t have huge property, but I do have a lot of places to trim. Getting this thing put together and set up was super easy. With the batteries on the back and the trimmer mechanism on the front I find it to be well balanced for me and I don’t have any issue holding this thing for 20 to 25 minutes. I’ve already had one of my neighbors asking me where I got it because he said it seemed a lot quieter from across the street than my previous battery operated trimmer. It’s definitely quieter than any gas trimmer. It does a good job, has plenty of strength to get through the tough weeds and it’s easy to use. I have not purchased any of the additional attachments, but those are on the list. Definitely happy that since I have this base part of the system, I can get a hedge trimmer and a pole saw. I don’t need the leaf blower as I have a very good one. Definitely feel like this would be money well spent for anyone looking to invest in a decent system. I have other Husqvarna items and they’ve never disappointed me.

This trimmer feels precise and solid, and is indeed a capable machine, suitable for a medium sized yard. Battery life is very satisfactory – after 40 minutes’ nearly continuous use, it was down only 2 bars from full. It can trim horizontally or edge vertically with a wheel for stabilization. However, it does have its limitations compared to a decent-quality gas trimmer. It’s not powerful enough to rip through heavy, tall or wet grass.
Charging took 2h25m from completely discharged to full. The battery remained cool, while the charger got VERY hot.
You can lock the trimmer head into one position for horizontal trimming and another for vertical edging. The wheel is very helpful for edging. I found it worked better to edge from the side where you want to cut the grass, because the line didn’t seem to cut far enough if you rolled the wheel on the driveway, walk, etc.
Your left arm carries all the weight while trimming. I usually use a trimmer with a harness or shoulder strap connected to the balance point to carry the weight, so I wasn’t used to this, and my left arm got tired. My trigger hand almost cramped gripping the other handle while holding the trigger in.
The motor unit has brushes and a gearbox, both of which reduce power and can also wear out. A more efficient and durable design would have used a brushless, direct-drive motor.
The A15B automatic-advance head is reliable and effortless to use on long stretches, but it releases new line every time you start it up. You can hear this as a rattle at the beginning of the video as it whips the newly-extended lines against the built-in cutter. This wastes a fair amount of line and sends extra plastic bits flying into your yard.
The motor and light .065 line together were not powerful enough to cut easily through tall, thick grass. I wanted to try .080 line, but the manual recommends only 1.6mm line, approximately .065. Heavier line would slow down head rotation, preventing the centrifugally-actuated automatic line feed from working properly.
Husqvarna really wants you to buy a new spool preloaded with line when you run out. Buying a new spool every time generates extra trash and is far more expensive than just winding bulk line onto the original spool. I wanted to know how much line to use, but the manuals and support videos don’t say. I tried asking their customer service, which was poor. Chatting directly from their yard equipment website, the rep had no knowledge of this model. At first, she referred me to the vacuum cleaner customer service number. I repeated it was lawn equipment, gave the model number of the trimmer attachment and of the trimmer head, and she still couldn’t tell me how much line the spool holds. Said someone would email me with the information. A few days later I received an email from support, but it claimed they needed photos of my trimmer’s model and serial numbers, even though they already had the model numbers right there in the chat transcript, which they even included in their response. I didn’t bother to respond. Oh well, it’s easy to wind line onto the spool. I just had to experiment a little to find the right length: You need two 15’ pieces. To refill, tuck one in each hole at the spool’s center and wind them in the clearly marked direction on the spool. Pop the spool back in the head, thread the line ends through the eyelets, and snap the cover back on. Job done.
