I wear husqvarna and stihl PPE. This harness is commercial grade and makes hours of use of a brush cutter unremarkable. The machine weight carries easily on both shoulder, and is easily clipped into and out of the harness mounting clip.

I received my Husqvarna Harness today. THANKS! to all the other reviews whose glowing praise helped me decide to purchase this fine piece of equipment!!
I may not be able to add much for new information, but I’ll sure say that in my opinion the value of the harness is MUCH more than the price in currency.
I spent about 9 continuous hours running a 18 pound trimmer (with blade) earlier this week. (I also have a review of the Renegade Blade if you have any interest in that.) I have had a pretty good quality (somewhat similar design) over both shoulders type harness for a considerable amount of time, and have always been glad I spent the money on it. That said, my back started aching after just a few hours of use, and it didn’t get any better as the day went on. This was the first time I had used the cutter for such an extended period of time to cause the (lower) back to begin to say bad words to me.
I found an elastic type back brace/support that I used to use, and located it with the harness for my next long foray into cutting cedar trees.
Quite fortunately, I started poking around for any improvements/alternative harnesses available. I found this Huskvarna Balance XT Trimmer Harness, read the reviews, and made the decision to purchase it based on the many high evaluations. Of course, I noted that the comfort, relief from back pain, and quality were among the top reasons for the purchase. Amazon’s very competitive price sealed the deal.
I certainly will not denigrate anyone else, (nor do I think I am all that bright) but I did not have any problems figuring out how to set up the harness. I felt like the images on the back of the box and the enclosed instructions were enough for me to get to work within moments.
I spent more time taking off that silly yellow “Lawyer Sign” that others have mentioned than it took me to make an initial fit of the harness. I mean, I COULD have left that yellow monstrosity on the harness, but I was concerned the cows would laugh at me. Heck, I might end up in one of those “Eat mor Chikin” commercials! The shame of it all! So,,, off came that thing, and on went the harness.
As far as fit goes…a couple suggestions. The harness come out of the box with the rear support already in the L position. I decided that at 6′ tall; that was likely a proper fit for me. I used the harness for about 2 hours quite comfortably. However, I got to wondering how the XL position might feel in comparison. Due the the absolutely outstanding design, the switch from L to XL was completed in seconds. The result? MMMMmmmmm….NICE! And NO back discomfort at all in either position. The only difference was the addition of this harness.
While the L position worked just fine for me, the XL position extended the distance between the hip belt and shoulder belt just enough that I could tell within an couple minutes that I had found the sweet spot for me. I worked another couple hours with the harness in that configuration in COMPLETE comfort. I’d suggest a little trial adjustments to see if a tweak here or there will help out your Husqvarna experience.
As people who wear backpacks with loads, or the military among us who’ve enjoyed the pleasures of spending unending miles under a ruck know…Yes, the hip belt matters. A lot! The hip belt of a properly adjusted ruck, backpack, or Husqvarna harness relieves a great deal of the load from the shoulders, and helps maintain balance, posture, dashing good looks and shiny teeth! Of course that’s right. Look it up!
So, don’t hesitate to try to extend or shorten the rear support to get a proper fit.
Another sincere compliment to the designers at/for Husqvarna is their sizing of this harness. I had tried another similar harness from a different manufacturer. I do realize there are lots of large folks out there, but surprisingly there are also a few of us malnourished dudes, too! I happen to stand about 6′, weigh around 185 lbs. and have about a 32 inch waist. Just sayin’…
My previous harness must have been designed for the interior line of some professional football team, because even drawing all the adjustments to full stop did not bring that harness anywhere near a snug fit. Consequently, the harness (and the machine) were pretty much free to flop around. Not so with this Husqvarna harness. According to other reviewers it has plenty of room for the big folks, but also will easily adjust to folks more my size. And there is even more room to reduce the harness, so again…Thanks to the designers at/for Husqvarna for their attention to detail in the design process.
Another small detail that I did not realize even existed from the provided photos was a relatively small accessory pocket with zipper closure on the left side of the hip belt. That’s just another nice addition. It didn’t take long for my phone/music device to find its way into there.
Another point I’d like to make is about the pad for the hip where the trimmer is attached. The other harness I had used worked fine, and it was just a double thick piece of Cordura type material, possibly with some type of stiffener enclosed. The Husqvarna harness hip pad is comprised of some type of heavy duty plastic with the addition of a very nice piece of padding on the backside where it will contact your body. Very nice.
Yet another item I want to point out is the hook assembly for where the trimmer will mount. My old harness also had a very similar looking hook. Problem with that one was that it wasn’t uncommon for the machine to become disconnected from the harness during certain movements, such as climbing embankments or holding the trimmer in a somewhat abnormal way. Enter the fine designers at Husqvarna (again! these folks are great!) The hook design of this harness has a spring tensioned latch to ensure the machine doesn’t disconnect unintentionally. The release design is just as well done as the rest of this harness. The black plastic release has a portion that angles outward away from the person’s body. This portion has serrations molded into the plastic for enhanced grip. I found that I should simply place my thumb on the serrated area when I place my fingers on the tube of the trimmer. Then the release is opened as the trimmer tube is lifted in the motion of just closing the hand. Magnificent.
There is only one small thing that I’d liked to have seen on this harness. That would have been the inclusion of a plastic “ladder” piece that would have captured the end of the nylon hip belt adjustment piece. This is a minor quibble when taken in context with all the other exceptional design features of the harness. I’ll just do it myself.
I’m sure there are other portions that could be discussed but I’m confident you’ve received my message long ago.
This is without doubt one of the finest investments in myself I’ve made in quite some time. I just do not see it wearing out or failing.
THANKS HUSQVARNA! And also to Amazon and the reviewers I entrusted when I made my purchasing decision.
DON’T WAIT! DON’T HESITATE! BUY IT!
