Works really well, best used straight for hedge sides if you angle the cutter for sides it becomes unbalanced and wants to twist making it awkward and a bit of a strain to hold for long periods not a problem when cutting the top overall a very good machine.

Really please with this, goes nice and long , I saw a few reviews of people saying it’s heavy – I don’t agree ! I use a petrol hedge cutter and this is no way as heavy as that.
It does a decent job at cutting hard to reach hedges with little noise.
I used my 3ah batteries from my drills with no issues.
I can’t see the plastic cover for the cutter lasting very long, it felt a bit fragile – time will tell.
I would have given 5* but for the following points.
Please note that it does NOT rotate 180 deg for easy storage. Do it’s about 6ft long to store.
No carry handle / strap.
It’s a shame there is not a blank battery to cover where the battery goes – after all I don’t want to store my batteries in the shed with this over the winter. I will probably 3d print a false battery to cover up the connectors otherwise I could see them getting covered in dust and debris.
Other than that a great tool for the money.

The item is great so far . I registered with Makita for the 3 yr warranty (I have proof) when I logged in recently it doesn’t show this or another Makita item registered same day . I’ve emailed Makita but still no reply

I use this for everything now, shrubs, hedges… I’d shave with it if the handle went shorter. Without a doubt the best gardening tool I’ve ever owned. It sounds like underpowered rubbish when you turn it on but it can manage most green twiggy stuff up to about 10mm, bigger if you take a run-up. I know they do a twin battery version that is considerably more expensive (and I’m guessing unwieldy due to the weight) which I soooo nearly got instead but honestly, I think this is fine for most jobs. A genuine Makita 5 amp/hr battery runs for ever…I reckon you could probably do a manor house’s-worth of privet hedge before it ran out. Downsides? I wish the head angled all the way down for storage but perhaps that’s technically impossible. Maybe the plastic blade cover could be less crappy? Genuinely can’t think of anything else, this is one of Makita’s better designs and most of them are at least 80% well thought-through.

Have a high hedge at my property, and I couldn’t reach the top with a normal hedge trimmer, and a ladder wouldn’t work, because the ground isn’t flat enough. This solves both problems! It’s fairly light, although a little unwieldy at full stretch. It sips battery power, and lasts for ages. It’s also adjustable for length (height) and angle so you can cut the top. Perfect for my needs, highly recommended.

Einfach und funktional –
Läuft erstaunlich ruhig und mit 5Ah Akku ordentlich lange. Gut zu verstellen. Sicherheitsschalter manchmal etwas umständlich… Für den Hobbygärtner völlig ausreichend.
