I always Motorola G cellphones as they have a plain version of Android and several years of base system security updates and they are not as expensive as top-line Samsung or Apple (or Motorola Edge). This G85 is pretty good like the G82 I had previously: the OLED screen is nice, it is fairly light, it is quite fast, full support for many standards including 5G. It has five main differences from the G82:
* The fingerprint reader in on the front rather than on the back or on the power button.
* It no longer has an audio socket, headsets must be wireless.
* It no longer has an FM radio.
* It cannot take dual physical SIMs, one must be an e-SIM.
* The screen has curved edges.
It can still take a micro SDXC storage expansion unlike Pixel phones.
I would have preferred just an update to the G82 without all those changes which are popular in “modern” cellphones. In particular I would have preferred to keep the audio socket, the dual physical SIM and a screen without curved edges. I am still giving it 5 stars as at the “sale” price it is still quite good value.

There are 2 big black spots I discovered while the screen is literally all white. I love this phone: handy, speed, screen resolution is sharp, sound is good, but not that quality.

Great phone, easy to set up from Motorola to Motorola. Less than an hour. Great battery life. Had a Moto g54 before this one. It’s much lighter in the hand and love the curved edges. Great price too.

This was an awesome phone until I noticed that my phone book, no matter what I did, would not transfer, even after rewriting all my contacts fresh and new onto the phone it still kept telling me that my incoming calls were either unrecognised, or they were just numbers and some just kept being blocked randomly. It had to go back unfortunately, it really is a nice phone when working properly, I just didn’t get too much opportunity of that. When I didn’t notice the problem it was so easy to use, the screen quality was beautiful as was the refresh rate, the quality of the phone in the hand felt excellent and it was so easy to use. It charged really fast and the fingerprint reader actually worked quite well, I think I just got a bad one, but it put me off and I got another phone from Nothing instead (which is awesome).

Why does anyone need to blow hundreds of quid more on a phone when this one does everything so well? I totally love this phone. It has a large, super clear screen, great audio, is amazingly light and very easy to set up. Huge memory helps everything run silky smooth with no lag. There is a dedicated gaming mode if that’s your thing. The camera seems very good too – certainly good enough for the photos 99% if us will ever take. It comes with a charging cable but no plug, a silicon case to protect the back and has gorilla glass on the screen. To be perfect it would also come with a screen protector and headphone jack but I can live with this at this price.
Amazon Customer –
Initially I was very pleased with this reasonably priced midrange 5G phone , it did all that I asked of it. The camera seemed ok, I was pleased with the battery life compared to my old aging S8+, with mediocre use it was easily lasting a couple of days+ as opposed to a day at a struggle with my old phone. . It looked and felt ok( like an average smartphone). Sadly after about a week , I think a day after the Android 15 roll out , the caller id failed and all incoming calls became unknown. Having wasted over a fortnight of going through the settings ,going through a hard reset, speaking with Motorola , my supplier (sky) and Amazon helpline , sadly I had to return the phone, Having spent lots of time online trying to resolve this issue , it strikes me that it is a Motorola issue that predates the Android 15 roll out. I am not a techie but can usually stumble through these issues. Had I managed to cure this I would of happily kept the phone. I may yet even try another G85

I absolutely love this phone. Had it around 3wks now and I’m still finding things out. Had the g53 model before and it’s no match for this phone. It’s very quick and easy to use and even helps the life of battery as you can opt to stop charging once it reaches 80%. I don’t play games or watch TV or movies on it but the quality for taking photos is excellent. I bought it as a treat for myself for Xmas, and I’m so glad I did. I usually get a new phone every year but I think I will stick with this phone for a lot longer. It looks great, performs great and I cannot think of one bad thing to say. I love love love it.
