It was somewhat fiddly to position the self-adhesive sandpaper strips, and adjust the mower. The device produced only a limited improvement after use, and left noticeable score marks on the blades. Perhaps a finer grade sandpaper would have been better. Further examination revealed the poor cutting performance was due to a blunt bottom plate. A blade sharpener is no use for this.

The tool is a great design, very simple but very effective and easy to fit. Just adjust the cylinder blade up away from the bottom blade, slide the sharpener onto the bottom blade and slowly re-adjust the cylinder until it contacts the sharpener. Taking time to lightly skim the surface of the cylinder gave a much sharper edge to the cylinder blade and a greatly improved cut.
I am grateful for the previous reviews, the holding screws are pretty flimsy so I would recommend tightening them with care. (That said, they don’t need to be tightened hard, the profile of the tool has a ridge underneath which seats against the bottom fixed blade and the rotation of the cylinder against the abrasive then holds the tool firmly in place.)
The abrasive strips are self adhesive. Once stuck to the tool only a narrow strip comes into contact with the cylinder and is worn down. I was able to easily peel off the abrasive and reapply it to the tool before reusing it, but I would suggest you remember to do this before storing it and the adhesive fully hardens. After the initial sharpening I imagine the worn abrasive would last 5-10 more times honing an edge, I might even try a finer grade of abrasive when next I use it.

My Qualcast 30cm Panther hadn’t been sharpened for about ten years, and couldn’t do much more than push the grass over. I had had a similar sort of sharpening kit at some point, but couldn’t get it to work, so was a bit wary of this one. However, the instructions were very clear. The abrasive strip went on the device OK, though I didn’t get it exactly in the place it said I should. Was a bit confused for a while about exactly where to fit the device, but there was only one way it could go on and be the right way round, so that went OK too. Having read one of the previous reviews, I gave the blades and bottom plate a good scraping to get the dried grass off. You need to adjust the blades quite carefully, so it is worth taking a bit of time with this. You don’t need to turn the bolts much to go from too loose (blades not striking the abrasive) to too tight (blades stuck). I started off with the blades turning quite freely, then tightened up gradually. It says 2 to 3 minutes of pushing the mower on a hard surface should be enough to sharpen the blades. I kept going for nearer 10 minutes in all, adjusting the bolts as I went along, till the blades were as shiny as I wanted them to be. The device came off as easily as it went on. The abrasive paper wasn’t marked, so should be good for another shot or shots. The mower needed some adjustment to get the roller at the rift height, and to get the blades into the best position, which I discovered was just striking the bottom plate, but still rotating easily. After that it shot through the lawn, actually cutting the grass it had previously been pushing over. So, 5 stars.

Way easier and cleaner than the previous way I did it with the grease and setting the reels in reverse. You do have to play with the adjustments until the pressure on the sandpaper is firm but still allows the reels to turn to sharpen, but once you get this it is running nearly like new!!

This works but I did change the sand paper too I higher number first I used the paper supplied then 100 grit and last 150 grit.

Tutto ok

Very good and effective. No need for compounds to brush on and then need to clean off.

Used to sharped a Qualcast 35S (14″) mower. No need to cut down to size as it fitted perfectly. I ran it for quite a while gradually adjusting the blade down to the abrasive and used oil to lube the grinding. Worked very well. P80 seemed a bit harsh, but did the job. P120 or P180 would have been my preference. Nice even grind though.
Pictured the bar after use. It only uses the leading edge of the abraisive tape.
Also the bottom blade is as important as the cylinder blade for a fine cut. On this machine a non-genuine bottom blade is only about £20.
Ok….ma venderlo a prezzo pieno quando scade fra 2 mesi è proprio una truffa –
Product is exactly as described. Shipping took a while, but we knew that.

I was unsure about this product, but thought I’d give it a try. I’d bought a second hand electric cylinder mower and the blades were in pretty bad shape. My problem was to get the blades re-sharpened, and along the same line as the fixed blade, so as to get a scissor cut. It took a while, I actually ran the blade backwards for several hours ( I had a LOT of blade roundness to remove). I expected that the blades would simply wear away the “sandpaper” in no time, and not be very effective. But it didn’t, it sharpened the blades very well. It’d probably be even better on a better maintained lawnmower that just needed the scissor edge freshening up. Would I buy again, definitely.

A simple piece of kit that works well for the price. I did as one other reviewer did, I cleaned the aluminium surface with isopropyl alcohol and warmed it up with hot air before applying the abrasive strip.
It fitted easily to the cutting bar which I then took time to level out via the adjusters on the mower (manual push type) I did push the thing up and down the path looking as If I had lost my mind (not a good look) but I found that on my mower I could turn the wheel by hand until the blades began hone (shine up) , after that it was easy going to push it.
It resurrected a mower that had been languishing in my mother in laws shed for years and gave the old girl a new lease of life….didn’t do the lawnmower any harm either !
It works.

This revived our push mower! An inexpensive way to give new life to your mower. Our mower works much better after a quick sharpening
