Customer Review –
First impressions count, and this one had me impressed straight out of the box. It was well packaged, and before I even plugged it in, I noticed one of my favourite features — the built-in cable tidy underneath. I’ve never understood why more appliances don’t have this! My toaster sits quite close to the wall socket, so I didn’t need a long trail of cable. Being able to tuck away the excess neatly was a small but brilliant touch.
When it came to actually testing the toaster, I went through the full range of settings. There are six browning levels, and each side of the toaster can be set independently — perfect if you’re like me and one person wants light toast and the other wants it practically caramelised. You’ve got full control over each pair of slots, which is great when you’re not doing the full four at once.
The eject function is also smart — pressing cancel only pops up the side you’re using. Again, it’s a small detail but shows real thought in the design.
Now, the “Lift & Look” feature — honestly, why don’t all toasters have this? Being able to quickly check how the toast is doing without stopping the whole cycle is genius. No more burnt edges because you didn’t want to interrupt the process. I use this nearly every time now just to get it exactly how I want.
There’s also a frozen setting which I tested with a waffle straight out of the freezer. Popped it in, hit the frozen button, and it came out properly golden and cooked through — unlike my old toaster where I had to re-toast frozen stuff three times!
One thing to note — on first use, you’re supposed to run the toaster on the highest setting (level six) without any bread in it. The manual mentions there might be a bit of odour as it burns off any manufacturing residue. Mine did have a faint smell on that first cycle, but after that, it was good to go.
The design is properly sharp too. The matte black with those vertical ridges and stainless-steel trim looks really classy on the worktop. I didn’t buy it for the looks, but now I’ve seen it in my kitchen, I’m genuinely eyeing up the matching kettle. It just has that premium look — understated but stylish.
Overall, this is one of the best toasters I’ve owned. It’s practical, clever, and nice to look at. Toasting has become weirdly satisfying — and that’s not something I ever thought I’d say.
Customer Review –
Overall, this Russell Hobbs four slice toaster is a pretty good performer and gives good toast. It’s not perfect but it is a lot better than a lot of the other toasters I’ve had recently.
It comes with plenty of features including a cancel and repeat function and it copes really well with different varieties of bread and toasties (both fresh and frozen). It’s super easy to use and intuitive, with clearly marked buttons and dials that make adjusting browning levels quick and straightforward (there’s also a pretty good instruction booklet should you need it). The wide slots are great for thicker slices or bagels (that have been sliced in half), and it heats up fairly quickly too, which is handy when you’re in a rush in the mornings.
The crumb trays are easy to remove and clean, which helps keep the kitchen mess-free. The design looks smart and modern on the counter, and the build quality feels solid for the price. While the wire isn’t all that long and it doesn’t always toast 100% evenly edge to edge, it’s consistent enough to be reliable, and the little features make it a practical upgrade over your average toaster.
Recommended.

I didn’t expect to get this excited over a toaster, but this one has actually made breakfast feel a bit less chaotic. I wanted something that could handle four slices at once because I’ve got a busy household and everyone wants toast at the same time. It looks sleek on the worktop with that matte black finish, and it doesn’t show smudges or fingerprints like some shiny ones do. The slots are properly wide too – I’ve used it with thick bagels, seeded bread, even frozen waffles, and nothing’s got stuck or burned. What I really like is the little lift and look feature, so I can check how it’s doing without starting over. I usually leave it on level 4 and it gets the colour spot on. I’ve tried the defrost and reheat settings a few times when I’m in a rush, and they both work fine – just tap the button and the light comes on to show it’s active, which helps when you’re half-asleep. It plugs in like a normal appliance and the lead was long enough for the corner of my kitchen without needing an extension. Only small downside is the crumb trays pull out from the back, which means I have to turn it around to empty them, but it’s not a deal-breaker. I’ve used it daily for a few weeks now and it’s been totally reliable, plus it feels sturdy which gives me hope it’ll last. If you want a good-looking toaster that’s easy to use and does everything it promises, I’d say this one’s worth the price.
