    Customer review

Despite a couple of design issues, this toaster performs very well overall and is especially handy for households with different toasting needs.

    Pros:
Independent dual heating zones allow you to toast different items at separate settings – perfect for families with varied preferences.
Wide slots easily accommodate thick slices, bagels, and artisan bread without getting stuck.
Clear and responsive controls make it easy to set the right temperature, with a good range for light to dark toasting.
High lift feature helps safely remove smaller items like crumpets or muffins without burning your fingers.

    Cons:
Crumb tray design is poor – you have to tilt the toaster to access it, which often results in crumbs spilling out. So cleaning is not easy.
Tip: Place a tray underneath before emptying to avoid a mess.
Temperature dials can be easily knocked, which might accidentally change your settings.

Russell Hobbs 4 Slice Toaster (Extra wide slots:

Firstly, I like the all black and chrome trim design. It goes well with my sparklingly black marble counter top.

It is a good quality build for the price with multiple slots if you are like me and two toasts at a time is just not enough.

I also appreciate it that it is not so complicated that my young daughter can make her own toast on the odd occasions that I am ill in the mornings. There aren’t too many buttons or functions to consider.

I too agree with what others have been saying about the crumb tray design. My 15+ year old previous toaster has two slide out crumb trays that you can access with nothing but two fingers. No lifting required.
What could possibly be the reason for this toaster to go backwards innovation wise?

I’d still recommend it to others with the one caveat that when it comes to cleaning out the crumbs, you are better off unplugging it and just turning the thing upside over a bin for a few seconds.

Im not the first person to note this but lets get it out of the way. The crumb tray design is terrible. Its a sort of latched assembly on the bottom of the toaster which is easiest to open by tilting the toaster back 90 degrees to access it then opening it.. which means all the crumbs go straight back into the unit. Its just annoying to work with honestly, but with some practice is something that can be dealt with by feel alone.

Otherwise the unit is quite solid in feel and it toasts well with quite an even toasing on all sides. It toasts thicker items like crumpets pretty well too and I like the high lift, however Ive not had a toaster without this for many years so its not for me, exactly a selling or novel point.

The overall finish is nice and the matte black which I would say is more satin than matte personally, is quite pleasant and provides quite a modern industrial look. Its a no fuss, functional taoster with easy to use controls that toasts larger items well.

Feels sturdy and does exactly what I need it to. Toast comes out how I like it without much fiddling around. The settings are straightforward and reliable. It’s handled different types of bread without any trouble. Cleaning is simple and it doesn’t make a mess. Looks good on the counter too.

Review Of: Russell Hobbs Black 4 Slice Toaster

I’m afraid I’m an appliance snob, and this toaster doesn’t reach my expectations of excellence. For the price, I had expected more.

It toasts perfectly well and gives you 7 levels of browning. With its wide slots, it’s handy if you like thick sliced bread or crumpets.

Apart from the mediocre looks and build quality, the thing that lets it down is the crumb trays. They’re not slide out drawers, they’re flaps that fall downwards when released. This means the toaster needs to be unplugged and then held over the bin or sink to deposit the crumbs. Depending on how often you use your toaster will of course dictate how often you need to empty the crumbs. Fortunately in my house, it would only be a couple of times a year, so not a huge deal. But I’d urge Russell Hobbs to rethink this design on future models.

This is a very smart and functional toaster.

With its separate four-slot design, it takes up a little less counter space than the more typical, and longer dual-slot designs. Beyond that, it’s all pretty standard, you’ve got a “defrost” and “reheat” setting, along with a rotary temperature dial and cancel/eject buttons.

It’s neat, smart, easy to clean and from a trusted brand. Though I do think it’s a little on the expensive side, especially considering that it is a rather plain-looking machine.

I recently requested the Russell Hobbs Toaster, and it’s absolutely amazing.
It has a 4-slice option and all options in between.
Its settings allow for each compartment to have independent browning, which is perfect for households where there are differing preferences to be catered for.
The compartments allow for thick bread slices, so this is a versatile toaster option.
Cleaning is a breeze with the removable crumb tray.
It comes in a striking Black and Silver contrast.
I would definitely recommend this to a household of toast fans.
