I have a decent Phillips blender with a 2l jug, but due to my mistakes, the content inside spilled onto the motor twice. I thought it won’t live for much longer and I could do with a replacement. This Russell Hobbs blender looked sensibly to me.
It’s well built, which is something to expect from that brand. The cool thing is that you can unscrew the jug from the base with the blades and wash both separately. The jug is 1.5l, a bit smaller than my other blender. Not an issue for me but may be for a family of 4.
The lid is ok, although the hole to throw stuff in is a bit small.
The blade part was the main selling point of this blender. It has the mechanism whereby pushing the jug down, in theory you should be able to prevent the content clogging up. In practice it doesn’t work very well – check the video. The problem is that the blades are quite narrow, so even if they go up a bit, they may not be able to catch the content…A bit disappointed here because I was almost certain that it would have worked.
Finally the motor – decent power, allowing you to blend/crush most things you’d put inside a blender. I like the chunky knob. There are two speeds and an ‘instant’ mode if you turn it counter-clockwise.
I can’t say it’s quiet, because it’s not. Probably slightly more noisy than my Phillips one, but nowhere near as noisy as the industrial Ninja I have, which sounds like the start of a rocket.
It’s a decent blender, with a slightly missed opportunity (blades going up). The problem I have is the price. At £90 you can get blenders which have more power, larger jug or more functions. It’s too expensive, especially that its flagship solution doesn’t do an amazing job. I would probably keep looking. 3 stars from me.
Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.

This is a large, robust, blender or liquidiser, a new product from Russell Hobbs. Included in the box are some brief instructions, the motorised base, the large 1.5l jug, which can be unscrewed to access the blades, and a lid with a removable clear-plastic central disc that can also be used to measure 30ml units.
As I’ve noted, the blender is very well made. It’s heavy and, although it’s constructed of plastic, including the jug, feels well made. That’s matched by a powerful 20,500 RPM motor at the highest setting. This is noticeable in use where the 750w motor seems able to deal with difficult blending such as nuts.
The blender is easy to operate. There’s simply a single central, large and clearly marked, control knob which turns the blender off and is used to select its two-speed operation. The unit has suction feet so can be securely fixed to a kitchen work surface. I guess that the USP is that if ingredients become stuck in the jug the jug can be pushed down which raises the height of the blades which hopefully avoids the need to turn the blender off, open it, and stir the contents around with a spoon! In practice this actually seems to work well. The jug, lid and blade mechanism are all dishwasher safe.
Less positively, the black plastic finish is a fingerprint magnet, the assembled blender is large at round 45cm high, and at £89 at time of review, it’s perhaps a little costly.
Overall this is a proficient blender worth four stars.

Seems like a good blender. I like the blade boost idea. Basically just raising the blades to release anything stuck around them. This works really well.
I was looking for a blender to make smoothies, but also large enough for general family blending, this seems to fit the bill.
Easily coped with frozen soft fruits that most blenders seem to struggle with.
I like that the lid is a push seal rather than twist, but you do have to hold it on by hand or it would fly off.
The blade and jug unit is easy to get on and off the base.
My only criticism is that it’s very difficult to remove the blade unit from the jug for cleaning.
I am concerned that even after the blade unit is removed (not easy!) it’s not possible to remove the rubber seal as it’s located under the blades. With my old blender it was recommended to remove the rubber seal and ensure it was totally dry before storing it. I don’t see how this seal can be dried and therefore I’m not convinced it’ll last. Time will tell!
Overall I’d recommend this blender. It’s expensive for what it is, but does seem good.
UPDATE
I wrote my review after using the blender once. The second time I used it for a pancake mix it leaked from the bottom. I tightened it as much as possible and tried again with a smoothie, but the leaking seemed to be getting worse.
Item returned and refund issued.
It’s a shame because it’s a decent blender, but some design features let it down.
