This isn’t an expensive phone but for the price you couldn’t ask any more.
It has a nice feel to it, the screen size is excellent and the photo quality is pretty good. It doesn’t compare to top end phones but only paying a fraction of the cost.
It functions really well, the speed is good and it does have the feel of a quality phone.
If all you need is a simple phone without all the bells, whistles and name then this would be a good choice

Absolute bargain runs lovely and smooth on Android 15 go (miui a15.) even with 3gb ram. Great stop gap, or even daily use at a push. All for the price of a takeaway! Looks great too! Big up Xiaomi

This phone really took me by surprise. My main phone is an iPhone 16 Plus, though I always have a second phone which I use when charging the main phone, as an emergency phone (if travelling or away from home) which is very important to me and that has access to key apps on a temporary basis.
What amazes me is how much has been fitted into a phone at this price. When I talk about the following of course for a phone that is a tiny fraction of high end phone costs compromises have been made and specs will not match high end phones but this is a phone I would happily use for most things and it does them well.
The first thing I noticed was how good the build quality was. The sides feel like metal and similar to mid priced Android phones. The phone feels solid in the hand not plasticky, the screen is large, clear and the brightness make this easy to read and use. The phone has a larger screen than my Iphone 16 plus and is only ½ cm thicker.
The back of the phone is patterned and has a coated reflective surface. Whilst the screen resolution is only 260ppi (the iPhoen is nearly double that), it actually has a faster screen refresh rate at 120 Hz.
When moving between screens, the phone flows easily feel very responsive. It can record video at 1080p and has a 32MP camera with an 8MP selfie camera. The camera quality is OK and captures colours well and seems to focus quite well. Given the phones price I found the camera better than I had expected.
It has 4Gb Ram and overall most major apps I used on it responded well and belie its price. Apps came up quickly, responded quickly. Downloads seemed quite quick. Using newssites in desktop modes I found quite impressive. Watching videos colours were represented very well, with good contrast, greens, reds, yellows, blues etc were represented well. There wasn’t any discernible lag in using standard apps I use such as Youtube, iPlayer, Chrome, Maps, Photos etc.
The phone is only 4G but that isn’t surprising for the price. It has a large battery and battery life I found to be good. Overall this is quite incredible value. I don’t know how this would respond with games but for general use it is quite simply a bargain at its current price of £89 at time of writing. I would not have actually thought it possible to get such a high quality, well built phone at this price.
Higher end users will notice the compromises but I am extremely impressed.

Decent cheap value for money android phone with great battery life the only negative is the sensitivity of the finger print reader or non sensitivity very annoying .
Gave up in the end .
Fails more often than it works meaning you have to input your lock screen code.

Quite shocked at how good this phone is, great battery life and decent screen resolution. Even feels quality, looks as good as phones more than 10 times the price. Time will tell but first impressions are promising.

The Xiaomi Redmi A5 Smartphone in blue is a solid choice if you’re looking for a dependable and affordable device. It’s got a really nice big 6.52″ HD+ display that’s great for everyday Browse and watching videos, and the 5000mAh battery means you won’t be constantly hunting for a charger – it genuinely lasts ages, easy to use and works perfect ! Running on Android 13 Go Edition, it feels pretty smooth for daily tasks, making it a good fit for general use. For its capabilities, this phone offers good money value and I’m happy to recommend it, especially as a reliable, no-frills option.

I bought two of these. This one being the 3GB version and the other a 4GB for my daughter.
I bought the 3GB for myself to use primarily as an MP3 Player and have downloaded a few games from the Play Store which run with no problem. My daughter plays Roblox on her 4GB mobile and runs fine though I haven’t tried on mine but I’m not interested in Roblox.
The battery life is great though I don’t run any intensive applications but I don’t have to worry about needing to plug in a charger. Charging is slow compared to others but then I don’t have to be continually putting it on charge. Maybe every second day or so.
The sound from it’s speaker, which is weirdly on the top, isn’t the best but does. So preferable to use the earphones or Bluetooth.
I haven’t used the camera much and never have really used any phone as a camera. For that I use a real camera. I found that colours aren’t quite what they should be. I.e. An image with purple in it came out blue and some others like red can appear orange. They do sort of pop out better but not a true representation. I don’t know if this is part of the AI? I’ve compared it directly with my IPhone and there certainly is a difference in colours.
I have an old Redmi note 10 which I could change themes and customise almost anything on the screen but this one seems to be missing that same level of functionality. It is very basic compared to before.
All in all this is a great value mobile. Maybe as a first phone or for a child. If it is broken or goes missing then it’s cheap to replace.
